“Checkpoint Cindy” Update 2-Fer..No, Make That a 3-Fer
Mckinney’s case has gone to the Grand Jury, and she has apologized on the House Floor…sort of.
And on the heels of that her body guard has been caught threatening a reporter.
First up, her case has gone to the Grand Jury:
Grand Jury Probes McKinney Incident
A grand jury has supoenaed two Capitol Hill aides who witnessed the March 29 confrontation between Rep. Cynthia McKinney, D-Ga.. and a Capitol Police officer.
McKinney is accused of striking an officer after he tried to stop her from entering a House office building without going through a security checkpoint.
Lisa Subrize, executive assistant to Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, R-Mich., and Troy Phillips, senior legislative assistant to Rep. Sam Farr, D- Calif., notified Speaker Dennis Hastert late Wednesday, as is customary under House procedure.
"After consultation with the Office of General Counsel, I have determined that compliance with the subpoena is consistent with the precedents and privileges of the House," both aides said in statements that a clerk read into the House record.
And in what is, I am sure, a completely non related act (rolling eyes), Checkpoint Cindy has apologized in true Dick Durbin Style: apologize for the fuss surrounding the incident but not the act.
The video is here, but courtesy of Sister Toldjah, here is a transcript:
REP. MCKINNEY: Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I come before this body to personally express again my sincere regret about the encounter with the Capitol Hill police. I appreciate my colleagues who are standing with me, who love this institution, and who love this country. There should not have been any physical contact in this incident. I have always supported law enforcement and will be voting for H.R. 756, expressing my gratitude and appreciation to the professionalism and dedication of the men and women of the U.S. Capitol police. I am sorry that this misunderstanding happened at all and I regret its escalation and I apologize. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
Well I guess it’s no shock she didn’t admit to hitting him and apologize for that specifically. There is a Grand Jury enpaneled, so an admission of guilt would have been bad.
But, Cynthia? You were in the wrong. Own it.
And finally, this tasty tidbit:
But even as McKinney appeared to be trying to put the issue to rest, a bodyguard she hired – reportedly a former Georgia state trooper – was raising another furor when he threatened a television reporter trying to interview McKinney outside the Capitol just minutes before she appeared on the House floor.
When the reporter from Cox Broadcasting tried to ask McKinney about the grand jury, the bodyguard told him, "I’m going to put your ass in jail. I’m a police officer," a videotape of the incident shows.
Asked if he worked for Capitol police, the man said, "I work for Miss McKinney."
Word that McKinney had hired a bodyguard roiled the ranks of the Capitol police who were worried that the guard was carrying a weapon. They said they are concerned about what the bodyguard might do if Capitol police challenged McKinney at a security checkpoint.
McKinney’s office did not return repeated phone calls seeking comment.
And just for fun, the altercation was caught on video. The irony is rich.
I am still just sitting back amazed at how far arrogance can unhinge someone.
Absolute power does indeed corrupt absolutely.
(Judging by my comments, it is apparent my sarcasm was too subtle, so I will clarify. The point about power is that she acts as if she is unassailable and above reproach. If being in Congress is not enough to justify her actions, then being a black woman is. She acts as if she is untouchable, and all powerful, and as such, her perception of her own power has corrupted her actions accordingly. The perception about power due to the office she holds is, by the way, not limited to just her…many representatives and senators build their own pedestals that way, and while standing on their lofty perches, they expect the world to treat them with reverence accordingly. Just my opinion, I know. But many members of congress could use a nice reminder that they serve us, not the other way around.)

"Absolute power does indeed corrupt absolutely."Cynthia McKinney? Absolute power? Seriously? Are you reading all the headlines today? Oh I get it, this site is a parody of right-wingers. Funny stuff.
Nope not a parody of right wingers but a pointed comment at her arrogance and her peerception of her own power.
She feels she is above reporach and can do anything she wants, and if being in congress is not enough to justify it, then being a black woman is.
That the power is in her mind is irrelevent, she acts as if it is real.
