Mel: His anti semitic comments, and his apology, with nods to Cindy Sheehan and Iran for their lack thereof.

Yes we all know that Mel Gibson got a DUI and shot his drunken mouth off, apparently using some fairly clear racial anti semitic epitaths.  In the drama that followed, he made a minor apology, then stunned everyone by actually making a clear apology that made no attempt to diminish his actions.

In Hollywood and in Washington DC, that is anathama.  Here is the basic details of the apology:

Mel Gibson asks the Jewish community for help

Mel Gibson has finally confirmed that the "despicable" comments he made, while he was being arrested for alleged drunk driving, were in fact anti-Semitic. And now he’s asking for help. Here’s his latest statement, issued today, via the Associated Press:

There is no excuse, nor should there be any tolerance, for anyone who thinks or expresses any kind of anti-Semitic remark. I want to apologize specifically to everyone in the Jewish community for the vitriolic and harmful words that I said to a law enforcement officer the night I was arrested on a DUI charge.

I am a public person, and when I say something, either articulated and thought out, or blurted out in a moment of insanity, my words carry weight in the public arena. As a result, I must assume personal responsibility for my words and apologize directly to those who have been hurt and offended by those words.

The tenets of what I profess to believe necessitate that I exercise charity and tolerance as a way of life. Every human being is God’s child, and if I wish to honor my God I have to honor his children. But please know from my heart that I am not an anti-Semite. I am not a bigot. Hatred of any kind goes against my faith.

I’m not just asking for forgiveness. I would like to take it one step further, and meet with leaders in the Jewish community, with whom I can have a one on one discussion to discern the appropriate path for healing.

The Current State of Feminism

Published by Karl under feminism

When someone says it right, I see no reason not to give them full credit.

One of my favorite bloggers, is Sister Toldjah.  She has always impressed me with her insight and perspective and this post is no exception.

Her post, in part, deals with another person’s experiences at the Annual NOW Conference (which is a worthy read on its own), where they struggled with the concept of making modern feminism attractive to young women (in a workshop no less), and in the process they exposed the feminist movement for what it is:  A complete sham, essentially the spoiled wreckage and shambles of the very worthy woman’s suffrage and equality movements.

Why do I feel this is so important?  Because my children will have to live with the consequences of this movement and their skewed and twisted goals, and I think that makes it very relevant.

Thanks again ST.

With no further ado:

A story about the modern day ‘feminist movement’

By Sister Toldjah

It used to be when you talked to a woman and asked her what the definition of feminism was, the general answer would be “equal rights.” Once upon a time, that was exactly what the feminist movement was about - they pushed for the right to vote, equality in the workforce …

Somewhere along the way in the 60’s, when the resurging feminist movement really started gaining momentum, the group splintered between women who wanted to continue to fight for that equality and women who wanted wanted to go even further in order to be ‘liberated’ from society’s ‘constraints’ (like marriage and traditional family, for example - remember the quote commonly attributed to Gloria Steinem: “A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle”?). Women’s libbers of the late 60s and all through the 70’s pushed that theme, and we’re seeing the fruits of their ‘labor’ even today (more people choosing to live together than marry, women ‘choosing’ to be lesbians because men are such ‘oppressors’, children being born out of wedlock, etc). In other words, radical women’s libbers from the era earlier mentioned have essentially been a bane to mature, responsible social culture amongst women.

Rumours of my demise…

Published by Karl under general

…As Mark Twain said, are greatly exaggerated.

Those concerned my blogging has dwindled down, rest assured, I will be returning to normal patterns shortly.

Going on vacation for a week had a couple of consequences.

One, I am swamped at work, and unable to devote any time to considering an essay.  I have many things to write about, which I will offer as teasers in a moment, I just need some time.

Another unforeseen consequence was wrenching my back hauling luggage the last night we were on the road.  It is uncomfortable to sit here, so I keep it minimal.

PICT1338I haven’t just neglected my writing, my guitar playing is not as fun when my back is screaming.

And considering I just bought one of my dream guitars(left), I am unhappy I cannot break it in properly.

But these are temporary setbacks, and by this weekend i will be back to normal.

Up and coming topics include Mel Gibson’s mouth and Hollywood’s hypocrisy about his comments.  I also have much to say about the liberal back stabbing of Joe Lieberman.

There are some great local political races heating up which demand a nod as well as the Seattle Sea Fair.

And finally I plan to vent on the state of modern manufacturing and electrical devices….and why they hate me.

Coming soon….
