Max Cleland defends John Kerry; Bill Frist joins call for apology

Published by Karl at 7:13 pm under Idiots, Kerry

Shocker….Max Cleland defends John "I Apologize to no one" Kerry.

Statement of Max Cleland on John Kerry’s Response to GOP Attacks

"I think people will remember John Kerry’s press conference today as the moment we Democrats stopped once and forever accepting the disgraceful smears of Republicans. John Kerry showed our Party how to fight back with the truth.

“John Kerry is a patriot who has fought tooth and nail for veterans ever since he came home from Vietnam. He has stood with his brothers in arms unlike this Administration which exploits our troops to make a political point and divide America.

“John Kerry should apologize to no one for his criticism of the President and his broken policy in Iraq. George Bush is the one who owes our troops an apology. This is text book Republican campaign tactics.

“Everybody knows it’s not working this time around. If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they’ve got a partisan political agenda and that’s the bottom line. We’re not going to take it any more."

Has anyone grabbed Kerry by the collar and just told him to apologize for crying out loud?

On the other side, Bill Frist condemns:

Senator Kerry Owes Our Troops An Apology

“Education … If you make the most of it, if you study hard, if you do your homework, if you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”  Senator John Kerry, 10/30/2006

While America’s servicemen and women are fighting and dying against our adversaries in the global War on Terror, John Kerry has the gall to criticize their intelligence, their education, and their motivation for service. His comments represent the absolute worst in Democrat scare tactics and present a grave insult to our all-volunteer Armed Forces.

Senator Kerry clearly owes an apology to our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines serving in Iraq. But Mr. Kerry has refused to do so. Instead, he’s claiming that Republicans are “desperately distorting” his comments. Watch the video yourself … it is perfectly clear what Mr. Kerry said … what’s unclear is whether Mr. Kerry ever means what he says. Perhaps he was against his comments before he actually made them.

And Senator Kerry is falsely claiming that Republicans “love to attack those who did [serve in war].” The truth is that Senator Kerry served honorably in Vietnam over 35 years ago, but he’s not immune from criticism today. Republicans aren’t “questioning his patriotism,” but we are calling him on his slur of our troops in the field.

Having just returned from Iraq and Afghanistan, I can tell you that the American troops I met were hard-working, intelligent, and dedicated to victory. Maybe the reason that John Kerry is so eager to accept defeat in the War on Terror is that he doesn’t share my opinion of our fighting men and women.
