    Karl,
Don’t you find a bit of a disconnect between the title of your blog and your recommended reading, ie., Ann Coulter? Her views would hardly mirror those of a true moderate. Maybe I’m missing something here. She is as far out there on the right as Moore or Franken are on the left.

    Just wondering…………

  2. Karlon 13 Dec 2006 at 3:53 pm

Not really.  You see, I dont take what she writes at face value any more
then anyone else i read.  I read it, extract the truth and then try and
determine how it aligns with me.

In the case of Ann, I resonate with the core ideas she advocates, but not
all her rhetoric and invective.  I do however enjoy the show.  In truth she
is likely one of the most astute political minds of our generation, but her
insistence in layering it in entertainment and vitriol ensures it is lost on
most of the people who read it.

You see, I never claimed to be a solid MOR moderate, i dont believe such
really exists.  My leanings are to the right, and I have always admitted
    that.

My title suggests something more, that my leanings no matter which way are
unswayed by the politicial winds blowing from either camp.  I liken it to
standing in a field with the wind alternately blowing in all directions, and
the grases bending every which way, but me standing tall, unmoved.

The political machines on the right are nearly as troublesome to me as the
ones on the left. Where the left loses me ideologically, the right still
resonates, but I hate the matter of "politics" in the forced polorization
that both camps insist on.  They both love an us/them mentality.

Thats why i never identify as a member of the republicans even if my voting
    sympathies align that way.

    Does that make sense?

Yes…that does make sense. I generally lean more left of center. From what little I have read you seem reasonable and open-minded.  Thanks for your response.

Using clips from a episode of Hannity and Colms where Sean Hannity is interviewing troops is supposed to tell me "what the troops really think"?  Seriously?  I mean, in the past, I have heard clips where Al Franken interviewed troops when he has gone to Iraq and they tend to agree with him.  You don’t think the fact that these soldiers are talking to Sean Hannity taints anything?  I mean, frankly, most likely scenario to that video is:  "This is candid commentary from Sean Hannity fans in the military."

Since most other representations are second hand it is good to see some first hand.  Obviously this handful of troops cannot be expected to be an authoritative representation of all the troops, but at the same time it is much more representative of the attitude I hear from the troops then what is generally portrayed, or is implied by people like Kerry and Murtha.

Research around the military blogs and you will find it is fairly representative.

Military people today are very proud of their being an all volunteer force and proud of their accomplishments.  The military people in Iraq are frustrated with the media that shows the quagmire daily but never the victories and accomplishments.
