Excuse me Speaker Pelosi, sorry to interrupt your party, but there is this problem to the south…
Major Update below which is why this is bumped back to the top.
As the new speaker parties to celebrate her coronation:
House Warming- For Democrats and Deadheads, the Gilded Party
Despite the promised "new direction for America," getting the money out of politics and all of that, some facts of Washington life appear immutable and eternal.
"One hundred hours to make this the most honest and open Congress in history," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared at the beginning of a history-making day — which ended last night with the Democrat from California presiding over a glitzy fundraiser open to anyone with $1,000 for a ticket.
They had waited a long time for this night to party, nibble on goat cheese ravioli with pumpkin and truffle, wipe their lips with paper napkins embossed in gold with "Speaker Pelosi January 4, 2007," listen to former members of the Grateful Dead sing "Truckin’ " and Tony Bennett sing "I Left My Heart in San Francisco."
"Democrats are back!" Pelosi said in her remarks during the few minutes reporters were permitted inside. "We are ready to lead, prepared to govern and determined to make you proud."
But missing from their 100 hour agenda is Immigration reform. That is an issue they don’t seem to be concerned with.
Meanwhile on the border, look what is happening:
Guardsmen overrun at the Border
A U.S. Border Patrol entry Identification Team site was overrun Wednesday night along Arizona’s border with Mexico.
According to the Border Patrol, an unknown number of gunmen attacked the site in the state’s West Desert Region around 11 p.m. The site is manned by National Guardsmen. Those guardsmen were forced to retreat.
The Border Patrol will not say whether shots were fired. However, no Guardsmen were injured in the incident.
The Border Patrol says the incident occurred somewhere along the 120 mile section of the border between Nogales and Lukeville. The area is known as a drug corridor. Last year, 124-thousand pounds of illegal drugs were confiscated in this area.
The Border patrol says the attackers quickly retreated back into Mexico.
Got it? Our border was attacked by people with weapons.
I am sure they were just Deadheads trying to get to Pelosi’s party, right?
I encourage everyone to write their representatives and demand border and immigration reform.

Major Update:
Via Hot Air, Heidi at Euphoric Reality claims she has an exclusive update on the Incursion story.
The Gunmen were not just rabble, they were uniformed.
Euphoric Reality has learned in exclusive interviews with high-ranking sources within both the Arizona National Guard and the U.S. Border Patrol that the incident the mainstream media calls a “standoff” was in reality a military-style operation, carried out by a unit of Mexican men dressed in military uniforms, flak jackets, and armed with AK-47s in an apparent operation to probe the border defenses and test the limits of the National Guard troops. Using easily recognizable infantry movement tactics (such as arm and hand signals and flanking maneuvers), the Mexican unit deliberately moved in a military formation across the border from Mexico, while under surveillance by the National Guard and Border Patrol.
She has much more information there.
Like Hot Air, I am always cautious when exclusives pop up, but if true this adds a very serious dimension to the Border Security issue.
Dan Riehl offers an alternate explanation, however. If I hear more I will link to it.
Regardless the situation on our border is still unacceptable on its face.

The solution to stability in the Gulf can best be achieved by ‘removing American forces, well entrenched across the region, and setting up, with Tehran, a regional security alliance.’ Not my words, but the words of Manouchehr Mottaki, Iran’s foreig…

The update would suggest that Immigration reform would in no way have prevented this.
Hard to say.
Would a wall and an active border patrol security force have made a difference?
Should the NG have forced the confrontation?
Part of the frustration is the wimpy non confrontatoinally attitude.
