More Gore hypocrisy- Gore buys his carbon offsets from HIMSELF

Published by Karl under Global Warming, OTA, gore, hypocrites

You heard it right, he buys the carbon offsets, those shell game feel good carbon credits that he claims reduces his eco unfriendly carbon footprint from himself.

Here is how.  From Ecotality:

Why the Gore Story Matters

As the controversy over global warming doomsayer Al Gore’s voracious energy-eater mansion rolls on, there’s an angle I think merits deeper investigation than it is currently getting. While much of the focus has been on whether or not Gore is an environmental hypocrite, the story has raised the profile of the role of “carbon offsets” in achieving a “greener,” more environmentally friendly world.

As Wikipedia explains, a carbon offset “is a service that tries to reduce the net carbon emissions of individuals or organizations indirectly,, through proxies who reduce their emissions and/or increase their absorption of greenhouse gases.” Wikipedia goes on to explain that “a wide variety of offset actions are available; tree planting is the most common. Renewable energy and energy conservation offsets are also popular, including emissions trading credits.”

So far, so good. So, where does Gore buy his ‘carbon offsets’? According to The Tennessean newspaper’s report, Gore buys his carbon offsets through Generation Investment Management. a company he co-founded and serves as chairman:

Gore helped found Generation Investment Management, through which he and others pay for offsets. The firm invests the money in solar, wind and other projects that reduce energy consumption around the globe…

It gets better:

As co-founder and chairman of the firm Gore presumably draws an income or will make money as its investments prosper. In other words, he “buys” his “carbon offsets” from himself, through a transaction designed to boost his own investments and return a profit to himself. To be blunt, Gore doesn’t buy “carbon offsets” through Generation Investment Management - he buys stocks.

And it is not clear at all that Gore’s stock purchases - excuse me, “carbon offsets” purchases - actually help reduce the use of carbon-based energy at all, while the gas lanterns and other carbon-based energy burners at his house continue to burn carbon-based fuels and pump carbon emissions - a/k/a/ “greenhouse gases” - into the atmosphere.

LSU on the radio

Published by Karl under Personal

I had the privilege of being asked to appear on the Bryan Suits (KVI 570am) show this afternoon.  We discussed the recent Dick Cheney assassination attempt but more importantly the deranged netroots howls of disappointment that the bomber missed, and liberal rudeness in general.  Should I get the chance to get the audio file I will post it.

It was a great chance to share my ideas, and I hope he asks me on again someday soon.

I recommend you tune into his show on the web at kvi.com if you are not local,  he is easily one of the finest talk show hosts around, and has a brilliant grasp of military matters.

So Thanks to Bryan for the chance to speak about what I write.

Dick Cheney, unhinged nutroots and a surprising response on the left: Censorship

Published by Karl under Cheney, Liberals, terrorism

So there he was, Dick Cheney, the Vice President, in a surprise visit to Afghanistan.  Suddenly there was a bombing attack at the base he was at:

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=2907390

A suicide bomber struck at the main entrance to Bagram air base in Afghanistan today, as Vice President Dick Cheney was visiting.

Immediately after the attack, a red alert traveled throughout the base — a red alert that we heard saying that the base was under direct attack.

At least nine people were killed, officials tell ABC News. Associated Press reporters at the scene said that they had seen the bodies of at least 12 people, and that they had been carried in black body bags and wooden coffins from near the base into a market area where hundreds of Afghans had gathered to mourn.

A Taliban spokesperson has claimed responsibility, saying the intended target was in fact Cheney. The bomber never got near Cheney.

Conservatives are outraged, as they should.  This was an assassination attempt against our government, if the Taliban reports are to be believed.  Had that been Al Gore in 1996 in Bosnia or somewhere, the left would have reacted with similar and understandable outrage.  In Cheney’s case, the response was predictable:  Disappointment.

The nutroots at Kos and Democrat Underground were awash with commentary expressing their unhappiness he was still alive.

Now, let me be clear.  This is not a new trend, and is not a surprise.  But it is still a sad state of affairs for Liberal America that the second highest rankling political leader could have such a close call, and all they can do is lament the ineptitude of the bomber.

But there was a slightly unique response at HuffPo.  The web masters first closed the comments after the barrage of hate spewing diatribes, and they they went as far as to delete the worst comments altogether.  See the details at Michelle Malkin.

This is unheard of.   They left has never shrinked from its outrageous rhetoric.  If anything it glorified in it, the more outrageous the better.
