Bill Maher speaks, the left is silent

Published by Karl at 8:49 pm under Liberals, OTA, ann coulter, hypocrites

Read more at Newsbusters.

Bill Maher has spoken regarding Cheney, and he contends not only should liberals be allowed to wish Cheney was dead, but that Cheney should actually be dead for our own good.

Watch the clip, while I wait uselessly for the left to pretend to care.

Hypocrites.  If the left allows Bill Maher to pass on this, then they should shut the hell up over Ann Coulter.  I am sick of the double standard.   I’m tired of the expectation that conservatives have to play nice.  The left has figured out how to exploit it, and that morally correct but strategically dangerous playing nice is what lost congress in the mid term elections.

I don’t mean to be rude, but, did you even watch the clip that you posted?

Bill did not say what you claim he says. He is quoting from the Huffington Post at the beginning of the clip. At the end of the clip he says that if Cheney “did die, more people would live.”

That’s quite different from what your post alleges.

It’s also very different from Ann Coulter calling John Edwards a “faggot.”

Also, Bill Maher = Comedian. Ann Coulter = supposed political expert.

  2. Karlon 03 Mar 2007 at 9:29 pm

Note, Ann did *not* call him a faggot. She said she couldnt talk about him becuase using the word faggot would get her rehab.

Maybe you need to pay attention closer. As I noted, it was meant to imply it, but she never SAID it.

Maher’s comment is ridiculous on its merits as the VP has no direct impact on who lives or dies, and trying to see a positive in his death is tacky.

Maher is as often a pundit as a comedian, and Ann is as much a comedianne as a pundit.

My comment about Maher is accurate, as trying to see a positive in human lives for Cheney being dead is akin to “actually be dead for our own good”

Their cases are similar enough that equal outrage should be seen. It isn’t.

    And that is hypocrisy.

  3. Jesteron 03 Mar 2007 at 9:44 pm

I fail to see any real distinction between “I’d say he’s a faggot, but I’d get rehab” and “He’s a faggot.” It’s hardly an ‘implication.’

It’s also WAY beyond tacky. It’s patently offensive.

I’m not going to argue the point that Cheney has a real interest in the continuation of this war which does in fact directly impact who lives and dies, since you clearly support the administration and that would be pointless.

Equating continued persecution and offensive bigotry by a political figure with the off the cuff remark about the death of the vp by a comedian isn’t hypocrisy, it’s moronic.

    (ooo.. there’s a true example of implication…)

Again, you misrepresent what she said.

She didnt say he was a fagot, nor what you said:”I’d say he’s a faggot, but I’d get rehab”

    she said:
“I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘faggot,’ so I - so kind of an impasse, can’t really talk about Edwards.”

Again, you can accuse her of implying it, but she never said it. Can you not be consistent? You accuse me of quoting Maher improperly then immediate misquote Coulter.

Maher has a history of shooting his mouth off. he did it again, while the left yawns. He is allows free speech.

Cheney and the Halliburton myth again? Cant you do better?

He is VP. He has no policy making authority, only advice. The VP is the one of the most uninfluential positions in DC. He lives to support the administration and Bush policies, not hsi own agenda.

If you wanna take up the Bush lied people died mantra fine. But the Cheney accusations are pathetic.

And thanks for proving me right, that Bush/Cheney derangement rules above common sense.

  15. Karlon 04 Mar 2007 at 2:19 pm

Sorry I watched it yet again, and I have not misquoted him at all, nor did I misrepresent what his remarks meant. If you believe otherwise prove it.

If you say that if Dick Cheney was dead people would not die meedlessly you are implying that because he is alive they are. That is totally ridiculous.

Further, you have now put a cost benefit of human lives on Dick Cheney’s death, which is effectively a death wish. I think it is improper.

And I dont see anything remotely humourous about the VP of our country, regardless of whose administration he represents, being the target of assassination.

Oh, and I would open an email dialogue with you directly, but your email is fake.

We’re not silent, we’re laughing our asses off. Eat shit, you fake patriots.

By the way, what was the name of the ultraconservative radiohost who published the names and addresses of judges and doctors and congressmen who supported pro-choice legislation? And he said and still says very clearly that it would “be great if someone would off them”? And when a judge was murdered, he said “One down, many more to go”?

Yeah, just go ahead and fuck off, republican shit-heels.
