Coulter is bad, Maher is ok - Nothing really changes with Liberals
The outcry has continued against Coulter, and I am not surprised. The left and the right often combine their forces against her when she decides to push the envelope.
But likewise I am unsurprised that the left continues to ignore the outrageousness of the left, notably Bill Maher. His comment that if Cheney had died, less people would die is simple foolish, yet no one on the left cares. Granted some on the right are over reaching, and have implied he wants to kill Cheney which is not true. But the silence on the left is typical.
Fellow NW Blogger Andrew’s Dad made this observation:
Sorry… I can not make the jump from what he said to he wants the Vice President assassinated. It is just not there.
In fact I will go one step further… Bill Maher is right. More people would be alive if Dick Cheney were to die or at least was not part of the executive office of the United States of America. But here is what nobody is saying, those people who would be alive, the vast majority of them would be actively working to kill Americans or at a minimum would prefer to see Americans die and therefore we as Americans are better off with them dead. Thank you Vice President Cheney
Heh. Yea, Maher really was right and had no idea.
But As much as I like the tongue and cheek aspect of this, the implication of Maher comment still remains, that Cheney being dead would be a good thing. It may not be calling for his assassination, but it is a bit outrageous.
As I observe all this, all the fuss in all corners, and it just puzzles me how people do not see their own hypocrisy.
Take Jester, a commenter on my Maher post.
He began by challenging me on what Maher said, accusing me of misquoting him:
I don’t mean to be rude, but, did you even watch the clip that you posted?
Bill did not say what you claim he says. He is quoting from the Huffington Post at the beginning of the clip. At the end of the clip he says that if Cheney “did die, more people would live.”
That’s quite different from what your post alleges.
Actually not really. I alleged that Maher said what he actually said, and that the implication was clear, that Maher clearly believes that Cheney being dead would be better for America:
But the fun began when Jester continued with:
It’s also very different from Ann Coulter calling John Edwards a “faggot.”
You have to appreciate the irony of his accusing me of misrepresenting what Maher said, and then misquoting Coulter as part of his outrage. He then proved my point about Liberal Hypocrisy by making a pointless distinction:
Also, Bill Maher = Comedian. Ann Coulter = supposed political expert.
Well typically she is a legal analyst, not a political one. And she is a comedian/pundit more then anything else.
I replied:
Note, Ann did *not* call him a faggot. She said she couldn’t talk about him because using the word faggot would get her rehab.
Maybe you need to pay attention closer. As I noted, it was meant to imply it, but she never SAID it.
Maher’s comment is ridiculous on its merits as the VP has no direct impact on who lives or dies, and trying to see a positive in his death is tacky.
Maher is as often a pundit as a comedian, and Ann is as much a comedienne as a pundit.
My comment about Maher is accurate, as trying to see a positive in human lives for Cheney being dead is akin to “actually be dead for our own good”
Their cases are similar enough that equal outrage should be seen. It isn’t.
And that is hypocrisy.
If anything the outrage against Edwards is less, all she did was make a comment that can be construed to challenged his sexual orientation.
Did anyone suggest the country would be better if he died? No.
He replied and I again responded, but I wont clutter this with the details. See the post for that.
In essence though, he agrees with Maher, Cheney being dead would save lives because Cheney has a personal motivation to keep the war going. He even honored me with a blog of his own castigating me and accusing me of faulty comparisons.
As he clearly missed the point, here is a summary of my position, part of which I left as a comment.
The point of my two posts still stands unchallenged.
If you note most of the conservatives are challenging Coulter on her comment. I even said that her comments make me cringe as often as not.
But clearly as demonstrated over and over, she is playing by the rules the left has laid down. People like Al Franken, Randi Rhodes, KOS, Half the authors at HuffPo and anyone on Democrat Underground, all say daily things far worse then what Coulter said, yet for the most part the left yawns. They are free to speak.
Ann Coulter should be judged on the merits of her comment. Her comment in context was a mutli sided bolt at Edwards and his blogger fiasco using the Greys anatomy scandal as its means (IMHO). It also wasn’t really very funny.
But neither was the gloating of all the leftists, including Maher, who acted upset and disappointed that a suicide bomber missed Cheney.
It should be concerning that security was breached at a US base, that the Taliban found out he was there, and that they targeted a a member of our government for assassination.
What if it had been Pelosi? Or Bill/Hillary Clinton? What then?
If Sean Hannity had said what Bill Maher said (about Pelosi perhaps), would the left sit back and ignore it?
If Al Franken said what Ann said (about Jews or catholics perhaps) would the left notice?
I think not.
They didn’t seem to care when Amanda Marcotte said very hateful things about Catholics.
My wish is that the right wingers took their gloves off more often and took the debate to the left playing by their rules. Some do. Most prefer some fashion of civility They are expected to be nicer, and the left has learned to capitalize on it.
But they won’t. And the left knows it, so they spin and point fingers, all the while ignoring the hateful cancer in their midst
Ann Coulter may make some snarky comments that make us cringe and protest, but she is playing the game with the rules the Liberals play by.
The only reason they cry foul so much is they look at her and see themselves.

end of argument
Right! The “I Don’t Like Her So She Must Be Wrong” defense.
Remember, when you reduce your argument to ad hominem attacks, it is because you ahve no argument.
Hi
G’night
Some people don’t like Ann Coulter because she has the guts to tell it like it is and not pussy foot around…something there should be more of today…it’s called “tell it like it is”………
