Maher opens mouth and inserts foot with gay remark, but the left just yawns

Published by Karl at 11:37 pm under Idiots, Liberals, hollywierd, hypocrites

Proving again that what you say is less important then who says it, Maher made remarks that were clearly disrespectful, to the deafening sound of silence on the liberal left.

Read the transcript or watch the video and again, ask yourself:  If that stage had been Hannity and Coulter and they were discussing Al Gore or Bill Clinton, would the left not be howling that the right was filled with homophobic bigots?

What follows is a partial transcript of this segment, (courtesy of Newsbusters).

Bill Maher: The Republican Party, besides Rudy Giuliani, Bush likes to dress up. He likes to be a cowboy, or Iceman from “Top Gun.” And they have something very gay, excuse me, going on with Ronald Reagan. I mean, they love Ronald Reagan in a way that’s just gay. I’m sorry. But, I think they want to put him on a stamp so that they can lick his backside. Well, seriously, I mean – am I right?

David Kuo: They call him the “Big Gipper.”

Roseanne Barr: But I mean, Reagan was the beginning of the whole dream that they had, the right wing since you know, Roosevelt died, that they would take everything that working people have worked, you know, all this time for, and dismantle it. That’s why they liked Reagan because he’s a confederate.

Maher: He’s just like them.

Barr: No, they worship him because he dismantled working rights for people. He helped make our country, like, only be about, uh, working poor, where you used to like actually be a working person like Dan and Roseanne Connor, and, like, have a house, and send your kids to college. Nobody of that, nobody who has those kind of jobs these days – of course, that don’t have those kinds of jobs here at all. They don’t even exist anymore. That whole class doesn’t even exist in this country anymore.

Kuo: Ronald Reagan, you know, deserves a certain amount of defense. I mean, he did sort of win the Cold War.

Maher: Hah. Come on.

Kuo: He did, right?

Maher: He played a part. That is so ridiculous. That infuriates me. To say this man came in in act five at the very end, and he won the Cold War. You know what? Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, everybody played a part in winning the Cold War.

Hot Air has a video excerpt and MsUnderestimated a longer one here.  Hot Air added this comment:

This “joke” came right after he made fun of Ann’s anti-gay “joke”. The crowd booed Ann but went wild over Bill’s “Republicans love Reagan in a gay way” joke. By the way, panelist David Kuo is the one who implied calling Reagan the “big Gipper” is gay. Kuo, if you remember, is a real “Christian conservative” who left the White House because they lost their religious way. He was whooping on conservatives all last night. However, he did defend Reagan’s part in the Cold War (not shown in the video). I can’t wait to see America Blog condemn Maher. I just. can’t. wait. Bill Maher’s weird joke is okay though, since he’s a liberal.

Roseanne’s comments are laughable on their face, and continue to churn the idiotic stereotype that all republicans are greedy super rich assholes that only want to take away the rights of the working class and make them all poor.

Apparently that does not include ambulance chasers like Edwards, guys who marry rich heiresses like John Kerry, and people like the Hollywood elite who spend more money on a bathroom upgrade in their plush mansions then their fans do.

How poor and working class are the Kennedy’s who hide safe behind their walls and buy their justice?  Or Al Gore who spends more on electricity then people make in a year

Tell me Roseanne, how much money is in your bank account?  How alike to Rosie and Dan Conner are you really?  When was the last time you personally had to shop in the 10 for 10 section at the local super market?  When have you or your absurdly overpaid actor friends really had a friggin clue about the middle class except as they are sheep to plop down ten bucks on your latest films?

Hear me Roseanne:  I am the working class, I have the job you claim doesn’t exist, and nothing the Democrats have ever done has ever directly helped me.  No they actually want to raise my taxes to make my life harder.

Every time I hear people like them spout their arrogant bullshit it exposes them as what they are.

Idiots.  Hypocrites and idiots, all of them.

I don’t think the left is brushing Maher under the rug and dismissing what he said because he is a liberal. I think it is because no one wants to admit they watch Bill Maher.

Anytime someone says, “I was watching Bill Maher last night…” it is quickly followed by… “Uh… yeah, sorry.”

I find some liberals, left, whatever… funny. Jon Stewart does what Bill Maher could only dream about. Lewis Black is hilarious. And both Lewis and Jon can make well thought out points.

Maher cannot make a valid point… or a joke.

While it’s easy to take what Bill Maher says out of context and declare that his perspective is just as homophobic as Ann Coulter’s, you have to look at his previous remarks about gays to understand why no one is spitting nails over this recent comment.

Maher’s usual response to measures against the gay community is something along the lines of “And you’re more worthy because…?” Add that to the fact that he criticizes people on both sides of the aisle, and you get a better idea.

The thing is, Ann Coulter doesn’t say anything mild about anyone she disagrees with. She either loves someone or hates them completely, and that’s what makes her an easy target for the liberals she hates so much. If she hadn’t been famous for picking at the 9/11 widows or saying that women don’t deserve the right to vote, folks probably wouldn’t let this debate go on for so long. The recent remarks about John Edwards were a swipe at Edwards and the gay community, since she clearly has little respect for either of them. She’s just another example of someone who gripes about media coverage, then feeds them a soundbite to keep her name in the papers.

I honestly don’t get why she’s so beloved by so many people. As much as I’m one of those bleeding heart liberals that she abhorrs, I do try to understand all angles of the debates, and she appears to me to be a polarizing figure that spews hate and further drives a wedge through a country that so desperately needs to come together.

loudprincess: Same old I applaud free speech except…Webster’s Dictionary has multiple defs related to fag, faggot, not related to sexuality, that apply to Edwards. I’m a faggot since my short stature made me subject to the whims of upper classmen (people). This is the def I believe Coulter is refering to. Edwards will acknowledge other Dems with greater war chests and history. Nothing to do with homo’s. My close friends are homo’s. Fuck you asshole liberal, homophobic racist.
