Global Warming Round Up

Published by Karl at 11:32 pm under Global Warming, gore

A busy weekend for Global Warming stories, so here is a round up.

The Challenge:

In a formal invitation sent to former Vice-President Al Gore’s Tennessee address and released to the public, Lord Monckton has thrown down the gauntlet to challenge Gore to what he terms “the Second Great Debate,” an internationally televised, head-to-head, nation-unto-nation confrontation on the question, “That our effect on climate is not dangerous.”

Rhetoric, at dawn…

Scientists blame Hollywood for increased fears over global warming

Leading climate change experts have thrown their weight behind two scientists who hit out at the “Hollywoodisation” of global warming.

Professor Hardaker warned against the “Hollywoodisation” of weather and climate seen in films such as the 2004 smash hit film The Day After Tomorrow, which depicts terrifying consequences after the melting of the Arctic ice shelf.

Well not like Hollywood panders to the GW movement and gives it awards or anything…oh wait…

GORE FACES HILL GRILLING ON ‘WARMING’; QUESTIONS AWAIT FORMER VP

Temperatures are predicted to reach a high of only 43-degrees on Wednesday in Washington, but look for high-heat to come out of Al Gore’s scheduled appearances on The Hill!

Gore is set to appear before Rep. John Dingell’s [D-MI] all powerful Energy and Commerce Committee in the morning and Sen. Barbara Boxer’s [D-CA] Environment and Public Works Committee in the afternoon.

Both are expected to have overflow seating, and protesters, both for and against Gore.

“Democrat Dingell is a big global warming skeptic, so do not expect him to go too lightly on Gore,” predicts a congressional source.

[Dingell has also invited Gore critic, Dr. Bjorn Lomborg, Adjunct Professor, Copenhagen Business School, to appear at the hearing. Lomborg is author of the book 'The Skeptical Environmentalist.' He recetly wrote: "The cacophony of screaming does not help." ]

That should be interesting.  Mostly to see if any of the skeptics have the guts to actually ask hard questions, or if they will lob softballs at him for a few hours.

Of note will be how well the Democrats can kiss his ass from those high committee seats.

Ex-CIA chief says U.S. must act on climate

The United States must act to cap its emissions of greenhouse gases and join the fight against climate change or risk losing global leadership, a former CIA director said in a report released on Monday.

“The United States must adopt a carbon emission control policy,” John Deutch, head of the Central Intelligence Agency in 1995-96, said in a report to the Trilateral Commission, a grouping of business and opinion leaders from Europe, the United States and Asia.

Ex CIA…How did an EX CIA guy end up at MIT?  What are they teaching there now?

A climate of fear

The Bomb was back, like the ghost at a banquet of anxiety. And it wasn’t just explicit imagery that evoked nukes. It was all the stuff about the world ending. From Al Gore to the International Panel on Climate Change, everyone had grim news for the planet.

At the leading edge of climate pessimism, the prognoses were frankly apocalyptic. “Before this century is over, billions of us will die and the few breeding pairs of people that survive will be in the Arctic,” predicted James Lovelock, a renowned environmental scientist.

A few breeding pairs?  I hope they aren’t same sex…

Global Warming: ‘Girls Gone Green?’

Worries about global warming have been keeping men awake at night, according to a recent report.  In  the major survey of just over a 1,000, it found one-in-seven (15%) feel that not enough has been done to improve the environment.

Nearly a third are worried about the impact on the human race due to global warming.

Also concerned is Sheryl Crow, who is teaming up with environmental activist Laurie David for this spring’s “Stop Global Warming College Tour.”

That should take their minds off it.  Just ignore the tour buses, semis and private jets…

But the most disturbing of all:

 Global Warming: Moving Towards Metrosexuals

The latest point of emphasis in the global warming movement is that cattle farming endangers the planet by producing too much methane. So now, steaks and hamburgers are classified as instruments of destruction, along with large vehicles, lawn mowers, and charcoal grills. It can’t be much longer before cowboy movies, cigars and hockey are held to be enemies of the earth as well.

Don’t tell Bill Clinton his cigars may not be politically correct.

This has got to be the most blatant assault on guyhood since ABC moved Coach to the same night as Roseanne, and turned Hayden Fox into Phil Donahue. It’s a wonder that liberals don’t cut to the chase, by simply claiming that global warming is caused by testosterone. Then, they could make public school nurses siphon the offending fluid from the boys during health class.

The punch line:

Many environmentalists believe that the earth is a living organism, personified by the Greek goddess Gaia. Conveniently, it turns out that Gaia is a shrew, who demands that her men be reduced to henpecked, metrosexual noodles. Manliness makes Gaia angry, and we wouldn”t like her when she’s angry, because she’ll turn into a green monster and start smashing everything to bits. Hell hath no fury like an earth goddess exposed to excessive cattle-produced methane emissions.

Now that is a movie I’d like to see…
