The religion of Al Gore

Published by Karl at 12:41 am under Global Warming, gore

In her most recent book, Ann Coulter makes the case for Liberalism as a religion to Liberals.  While I admit the notion is inflammatory, her argument is interesting in that she equates the practices and elements of a religion to the practices of liberals and the elements of liberalism, and she makes a good parallel.

As she says:

“Of course liberalism is a religion. It has its own cosmology, its own miracles, its own beliefs in the supernatural, its own churches, its own high priests, its own saints, its own total worldview, and its own explanation of the existence of the universe. In other words, liberalism contains all the attributes of what is generally known as ‘religion.’”

Now in fairness, a lot of that could be equally directed at any ideology, but in the case of liberals she is correct that liberalism contains several elements common to religion, particularly in the environmental arena.

  • Dogma, or a system of principles or tenets.  It is prescribed, and authoritative and violation of that dogma can cause you be labeled a Heretic.  This is particularly true in Global Warming and Environmentalism, where questioning the holy tenets is unthinkable.
  • Fanaticism, an excessive, irrational zeal, and intolerance of opposing views.  This is again very common in Global Warming and Environmentalism.
  • Holy Scripture, the reference for all things holy and dogmatic.  In this case, there are many, but none comes to mind more clearly than the Goracle’s An Inconvenient Truth.
  • And speaking of the Mighty Goracle, who better to be the profit..err prophet of the Church of Liberalism, Modern Day Environmentalists.

None of this is new.  Many besides Ann have made these observations,  but until now it was speculative.

Until now.

Now, the Goracle and his Scripture have finally found equality with Christianity, as it has replaced the ubiquitous Gideon bible in a California hotel.

“Green” Hotel

The Gaia Napa Valley Hotel & Spa wants to become California’s first certified “green” hotel — meaning it is friendly to the environment. Bloomberg reports the facility is equipped with waterless urinals, solar lighting and recycled paper.

It also is doing away with one staple of hotel rooms all across the world — the Gideon Bible. It seems that the effort to be green has led the hotel to move the Bible out of the nightstand drawer — replacing it on the bureau will be a copy of Al Gore’s global warming book — “An Inconvenient Truth.”

Well, it would be a good choice to cause one to fall asleep while reading.  And in case Sheryl Crow has been at the tp dispenser, you can just rip out a page or two.

Honestly, this post is mere whimsy on my part, and yet another great way to poke fun at the debacle that is the Goracle.

This is one liberal elite hotel, and not really a national trend.   I would expect a bunch of rich liberals to surround themselves with dogma they understand.

I am not particularly worried about it.

But then again, Christianity started small too, with 12 guys….hmmm.
