Fort Dix Plot: Right Wing Cheers, Left Wing Jeers

The right wingers are rightly cheering law enforcement and the anonymous clerk for bringing this plot down.  Had it taken even one life, it would be too many.

If you peruse the right wing blogs the details and congratulations to law enforcement are universal.

But on the left….I wouldn’t say the lefties are as mean spirited as they are about Cheney and Bush, but the general attitude is either a yawn, or some minimizing of the plot to make it no big deal.

Take Wonkette:

Ok. So, the plot was: six dudes from New Jersey buy some guns and storm Fort Dix. The Fort Dix that is full of lots and lots of Army reservists with way, way more guns. And, like, extensive military training and s**t. Yes, thank god these terrorists have been caught and locked up before they could be killed within minutes of deciding to carry out the dumbest f***ing terrorist plot we’ve ever heard of.

The trouble is that they had the means to access the base via the one guys job, and infiltrating the base armed would have let them generate a high body count.  The thing about military bases in the US, even major staging bases like this, is the average grunt is not sleeping with a loaded M-16 ready to jump up and do battle.  Sure the guys would have been brought down, but it would have taken some time to mobilize an armed response, just as a normal city has to deploy their officers and a swat team.

FDL’s TRex has decided it is just a convenient way to make Bush look good:

You know that Debbie Schlussel is turning clumsy-ass cartwheels of joy that there’s finally some Hot Islamic Jihadi Action for her to write about. And of course, their semi-questionable citizenship status has Michelle Malkin melting through her Victoria’s Secret white cotton lady briefs. You can go look at their blogs if you want. I don’t have the stomach for it. They’ll be dining out on these six losers and their woodland paintball games all the way to the 2008 elections and beyond. The Muslim Fanatics are, like, totally among us right now!! Time to start rounding them all up, eh, Internment Girl?

German Magazine: Global warming=good

Published by Karl under Global Warming

Not that our media will run with this, but a German Magazine has take the *heretical* position that not only is global warming not a problem, it is actually good.

German Mag Debunks Climate Change Hysteria, Extols Benefits of Warming Planet

Here’s something you’re unlikely to see in an American newspaper or magazine: global warming might actually be good for the planet and its inhabitants.

This radical idea was advanced Monday by the German magazine Der Spiegel which did something I can’t imagine a U.S. publication having the nerve to do in this highly politicized environment: offer readers a comprehensive, balanced view of the pluses and minuses inherent in a warming earth.

How delightfully extraordinary.

Unlike most American media reports on this issue, Spiegel, in an article ironically titled “Not the End of the World as We Know It,” wonderfully began with a little history on the subject to put things in a proper perspective (emphasis added throughout):

Svante Arrhenius, the father of the greenhouse effect, would be called a heretic today. Far from issuing the sort of dire predictions about climate change which are common nowadays, the Swedish physicist dared to predict a paradise on earth for humans when he announced, in April 1896, that temperatures were rising — and that it would be a blessing for all.

Arrhenius, who later won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, calculated that the release of carbon dioxide — or carbonic acid as it was then known — through burning coal, oil and natural gas would lead to a significant rise in temperatures worldwide. But, he argued, “by the influence of the increasing percentage of carbonic acid in the atmosphere, we may hope to enjoy ages with more equable and better climates,” potentially making poor harvests and famine a thing of the past.

Doesn’t sound like what soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore and his band of not-so merry alarmists are proffering as they travel the world spreading doom and gloom on the subject, does it?

Rhode Island makes An Inconvenient Truth mandatory for graduation

Published by Karl under Global Warming, OTA, Schools

Rhode Island apparently values indoctrination above scientific accuracy.

RI Students Must Watch ‘Inconvenient Truth’ to Graduate

To receive a degree from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island, students are being forced to watch “An Inconvenient Truth,” the documentary on global warming produced by former Vice President Al Gore.

Just a note for the sake of accuracy, something An Inconvenient Truth cares little for, the movie was not “produced” by Al gore, and he is only credited as an actor.

The science class requirement has prompted one conservative student to declare that “we should stop calling these schools ‘bastions of knowledge’ since they’re really bastions of leftist thought.”

Pretty much.

The controversy at Roger Williams University (RWU) in Brristol, R.I., began the week before Earth Day, when the professors teaching the laboratory portion of “Core 101: Science, Technology and Society” required their students to watch Gore’s Oscar-winning film in class.

The course is one of 12 that students at the university must take in order to graduate.

Making the film therefore mandatory for graduation

However, Dana Pelosa, an RWU junior and president of the school’s chapter of the College Republicans, sent a letter questioning the course requirement to Jeffrey Hughes, assistant dean of marine and natural sciences.

“With the issue of global warming being such a highly politicized topic, with the scientific community unsure if global warming is man-induced or part of the natural cycle of the earth, do you think that it is intellectually honest to only show the alarmist viewpoint?” Peloso asked.

“If the movie is still shown, what plans are there to incorporate the ideas of leading global warming skeptics into class discussion?” he added.

And for the most part, that echoes my concerns.  Films like AIC only tell one side of the theories, they phrase it as fact instead of theory and then they abandon any scientific credibility by exaggerating the Truth and misrepresenting the theories they claim are fact.
