Is the Rosie O’Donnell story really over? The drama, yes but the lesson, no.

Published by Karl at 2:07 am under OTA, Rosie

After the infamous fight with Elisabeth Hasselbeck a few days ago, rumour circulated that she trashed her dressing room and bailed.  Taking a day off for her partner’s birthday was prearranged, but now the report is she won’t be back.

On the heels of that was another report that her chief writer was escorted from the studio, for defacing Elisabeth’s pictures in the hall.

Both of these events, though by separate individuals, illustrates the same attitude which has seemed to permeate O’Donnell’s character:  Childishness.

Her mockery and resulting feud with Trump, her condescending attitude toward Elisabeth, her blind belief in ridiculous theories (and refusal to recant in the face of solidly rebutting evidence), her racists remarks and resulting denial and her piteous gay baiting tactics to avoid debate, all speak to the behavior of a child.

Her comments about the troops are a classic example.  Her denials to the contrary, she actually did call the troops terrorists.  Oh she didn’t say it directly, she merely suggested it as a faux hypothetical question with only one possible answer.  The effective result is the same, it is a difference that makes no difference.

But rather then either confront it as her belief and defend it, or retreat from it and apologize, she engaged in a childish debate, calling on Elisabeth as her friend to defend her, and then shifting the focus of the debate to Elisabeth’s shortcomings as a friend finally calling Elisabeth the coward though she was the one who could not face the consequences of her actions.

And her comments on her blog support her belief in that theory, so why not defend it?

This is not about free speech.  She has the right to have that belief and to state it if she chooses.  And if others disagree, they have a similar right to express that.

The reality is that this is about maturity and intellectual honesty.

Put short, I have no respect for a person who cannot engage honestly in a debate.

The whole reason this is now an issue is not because Rosie is suddenly outrageous.  Go here to see a list of her outrages.   She has a long history outrageousness.

This is all an issue because Elisabeth finally decided to take the bull by the horns and fight back. And like all bullies, Rosie when faced with a prepared and determined adversary chickened out and ran.  She stomped her feet, had a tantrum, and ran away.  Her friend defended her with a little Sharpie Marker terrorism (and please note I have NOT accused her of asking her writer to deface Elisabeth’s pictures).

Elisabeth proved the truth of dealing with bullies:  They are cowards who cannot stand up to equal odds.

Ironically it is second showdown in recent days, as Bush stared down congress to pass the spending bill without a timetable for defeat withdrawal.

Likewise the Democrats in this country exhibit a similar pattern of behavior, a tendency towards childishness and an avoidance of truth followed by immature tactics involving shouting down the opposition and refusing to engage in honest debate, along with a refusal to face facts in the face of clear evidence.

Rosie’s downfall was her cockiness.  People complained but no one had really called her accountable for her actions.  Elisabeth usually allowed herself to be cowed and retreated into politeness.  And so Rosie pushed harder until she pushed too far.  Elisabeth chose her battle and fought back, and trounced Rosie.

And likewise Bush chose his battle and stood firm against the will of the nutroots.  I don’t regard this as a huge victory really, there are too many policies of pacification and politicians afraid of their shadows, but a small victory it was.

Now the rest of the Republicans should heed the message and lesson and likewise. grow a spine and stand up for their beliefs.

Rosie may be gone from The View, but the lessons in her behavior are there for all to see.

Heck, you see them on the playground all the time….

It goes a little farther than that though Karl, I believe it is the mindset of the Democrat party.

It is the lack of Personal Responsibility.

    - It’s not your fault your fat - sue McDonalds.

    - You don’t have to get a job, we (government) will take care of you.

    - Terrorists are just misunderstood and we just need to find out WHY they hate us so WE can change.

It’s that type of mindset where you are not responsible for your own actions that the Democrats foster as a Mantra.

Karl - O my gosh! I cannot believe your post! I wrote an early post over at my place and then took off to help a friend do some remodeling.

When I got back and got to your blog on my daily read I find that we both posted on basically the same thing. How weird is that. I guess great minds really do think alike!

I’d give you a hat tip but I hadn’t read your blog first. I decided what to post about last night and wrote it quick this morning. But a belated recognition of your genius would not be out of line.

    Thanks for the great post!
