The ugly truth about securing the borders, via Ted Nugent

Published by Karl under Illegal immigration

Only Ted can cut through the crap and point out the obvious.

Guess what.  No fence or wall is going to work unless you have the will to enforce that security.  A physical barrier is not enough, they will go over, go under or around or even through.  Heck, they could swim around.

As long as being here is better then being there, they will come.  The sanctuary city movements that draw the illegals, as well as the jobs they can get no questions asked make this an attractive prize.  As long as we keep the carrot dangling, the mule will come.  Period.

And here is the reality check:  We don't have the guts to do what would work.  Will we do what the Russians or Koreans did?  Will we mine the border and kill the people infiltrating it?  Will we set up machine gun nests and blow them away?  No, and frankly while that would certainly work, I cannot say I am unhappy we won't but we won't even impose sanctions on Mexico, whose government facilitates the flow of illegals.

So in the end we do a lot of useless feel good things.  Granted some of the alternatives are horrendous, but there are plenty that are reasonable:

  • Sanctions on Mexico.
  • Severe fines on employers wo hire ilelgals.
  • Felony convictions and hard time for any illegals caught.  Heck set up chain gangs and make them build the damn wall.
  • Immediate arrest and deportation of people overstaying visa's.
  • Loss of Federal Highway funds to Sanctuary cities.
  • Immediate denial of social services except in life threatening situations.

In other words, make being here illegal so uncomfortable that it is unpalatable.

How hard is that to understand?

More on Edwards and Coulter

Published by Karl under OTA, ann coulter, edwards, hypocrites

The Ann and Liz show continues and as usual people spend most of the time accusing Ann of saying things she did not say.  Take this link for example, where they gleefully chortle that:

Ann Coulter Loses It, Calls Elizabeth Edwards A "Harridan"

Except she didn't call Edwards anything.

Yes, she is upset, and when the left continually misrepresents you it has to be frustrating.  But she did not call any specific person a harridan, she made a unspecific reference to being attacked by Harridans.  No where did she point a finger, and Liz is not the only female to challenge her, so this is more grandstanding.

Newsmax has more:

 Furious Ann Coulter Strikes Back

An obviously angry Ann Coulter this morning ripped into critics who deliberately distorted her comments about former senator and presidential hopeful John Edwards.

After a relentless 24-hour firestorm during which much of the mainstream media used selective quotes to mangle the meaning of several of Ann’s comments about Edwards, Coulter set the record straight while talking with Joe Scarborough host of MSNBC’s "Morning Joe” program.

Coulter told Scarborough:

"I’ve never seen people avoid ideas so much in such an obvious way and try to alert Americans not to read anything, not to listen to something someone said — not because of what someone is saying, but to try to portray her as a Nazi. This happens every time I put a book out and I’m getting a little bored with it . . .”

She further explained that she never wished John Edwards would die. She simply said on "Good Morning America" on June 25 that Bill Maher had wished the death of Vice President Cheney by terrorist attack and got away with it, so perhaps if she wanted to avoid criticism in the future while mentioning Edwards, she should say the same thing.

"Oh yeah, I wouldn’t insult gays by comparing them to John Edwards,” Coulter said on "Good Morning America." "That would be mean. But about the same time — you know — Bill Maher was not joking and saying he wished Dick Cheney had been killed in a terrorist attack. So I’ve learned my lesson. If I’m going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I’ll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot.”

More on the “un”-fairness doctrine, and some thoughts on local talk radio

Published by Karl under Democrats, Local, OTA, congress, hypocrites

From Townhall, Rich Galen has some good comments.

Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Ca) said on Sunday that she thought it would be a good idea if the Congress would pass a law bringing back what used to be known as "The Fairness Doctrine."

First some history to understand 'what' the Fairness Doctrine is, or more accurately,  what it was.

On Fox News Sunday this past weekend, Feinstein, according to Broadcasting & Cable Magazine said that "talk radio is one-sided and 'explosive.' She said it 'pushes people, I think, to extreme views without a lot of information.'"

Which sounds much like she's describing the Senate Floor debate on the immigration bill, but maybe that's just me.

The basic law covering the use of radio waves in the United States - including everything from radar to your local disc jockey - is built on the Communications Acts of 1934 and 1937 which, in turn, were based on the Radio Act of 1927.

Part of those laws included Section 315 which provided for equal time - or more precisely - equal opportunity for all legally qualified candidates for public office.

This was back in the time when newspapers were openly partisan. It was not at all unusual to have one newspaper in Upper Iguana named the UI Democrat; and another named the Republican Iguanian. And they really were partisan.

Because there are a finite number of licenses available for AM, FM and Television broadcasting it was decided that if a radio station made time available for sale to candidate A in the race for City Council, it had to make the same amount of time available at the same rates to Candidate B.

If Candidate B was underfunded, there was no requirement that the station give him time to match what Candidate A bought; merely that Candidate B have the same opportunity.

Ann Coulter vs Elizabeth Edwards

Published by Karl under John Edwards, OTA, hypocrites

With all the crap John Edwards says about his rivals and the Republicans, she has a lot of gall to confront Ann and ask her to stop the personal attacks.

Pot meet Kettle.

For those with short memories, this all ties back to Ann and her Faggot comment about Edwards, where she employed a paraleipsis and made a zinger about Edwards using the Isaiah Washington crisis on Grey's Anatomy.

Well on the Today show, it came up again.  Newsbusters starts us off.

http://newsbusters.org/node/13750

Assume for a moment that you were a co-host on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” and you were given the assignment to interview outspoken conservative writer Ann Coulter.

With everything going on in the world – from Iraq, to immigration, even to Gore-made global warming – what would be the first topic you would ask Coulter to address?

Well, ABC’s Chris Cuomo Monday chose none of those issues, and instead decided to ask his guest about a joke she made several months ago regarding Democrat presidential candidate John Edwards' sexual preference (video available here):

But to begin with the tough words, some tough words for you by the three top candidates in response to what you had said, some were calling it a homosexual slur, you said it was a taunt. They all came out when you were talking about John Edwards and said, 'This was wrong. We must deny it." Fair criticism of you or a shift towards the tolerant among the GOP?

Amazing. With one question, Cuomo was able to disparage his guest AND all the members of the political party she's affiliated with.

Gotta give him credit, right?

Fortunately, Ann came prepared:

No, no. There were, I was denounced all over. All over. I think the one that hurt the most was, was from I'mALittleGirlInAPinkPartyDress.com… Very upsetting…Though about the same time Bill Maher said - and by the way, I did not call John Edwards the F-word. I said I couldn't talk about him because you go into rehab for using that word.

Global Warming” People are not buying the alarmism

Published by Karl under Global Warming, OTA

And with good reason.

Three Quarters Believe Global Warming A 'Natural Occurrence'

ALMOST three quarters of people believe global warming is a 'natural occurrence' and not a result of carbon emissions, a survey claimed today.

This goes against the views of the vast majority of scientists who believe the rise in the earth's temperatures is due to pollution.

The online study which polled nearly 4000 votes found that a staggering 71 percent of people think that the rise in air temperature happens naturally.

And 65 percent think that scientists' catastrophic predictions if pollution isn't curbed are 'far fetched'.

Obviously a random sampling of a few thousand is not a scientific conclusion, and all surveys are prone to error, but I think the point is still made that the average person is not ready to sign off on the issue, not with out actual proof.

The fact is that the facts are inconvenient to the alarmists, and so is the fact that people really do act independently and have opinion.

The alarmists and the Goracle depend on the people being scared sheep that will mindless bleat at the suggestion of danger.

Global warming: Did the IPCC falsify its findings?

Published by Karl under Global Warming

Yes, according to a Swedish scientist.

Swedish Scientist Accuses UN's IPCC of Falsifying Data and Destroying Evidence

If you listen to the global warming alarmists working for the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or folks like soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore, sea levels across the globe are rising at a rate that will eventually doom us all.

According to Swedish paleogeophysicist Nils-Axel Mörner, who’s been studying and writing about sea levels for four decades, the scientists working for the IPCC have falsified data and destroyed evidence to incorrectly prove their point.

Mörner was recently interviewed by Gregory Murphy of Executive Intelligence Review, and began by making it clear that the sea level claims made by the IPCC are a lot of nonsense (emphasis added throughout, h/t Eduardo Ferreyra):

[W]e can see that the sea level was indeed rising, from, let us say, 1850 to 1930-40. And that rise had a rate in the order of 1 millimeter per year. Not more. 1.1 is the exact figure. And we can check that, because Holland is a subsiding area; it has been subsiding for many millions of years; and Sweden, after the last Ice Age, was uplifted. So if you balance those, there is only one solution, and it will be this figure.

That ended in 1940, and there had been no rise until 1970; and then we can come into the debate here on what is going on, and we have to go to satellite altimetry, and I will return to that. But before doing that: There’s another way of checking it, because if the radius of the Earth increases, because sea level is rising, then immediately the Earth’s rate of rotation would slow down. That is a physical law, right? You have it in figure-skating: when they rotate very fast, the arms are close to the body; and then when they increase the radius, by putting out their arms, they stop by themselves. So you can look at the rotation and the same comes up: Yes, it might be 1.1 mm per year, but absolutely not more.

Boy: Taliban Recruited Me to Bomb Troops

Published by Karl under terrorism

Boy: Taliban Recruited Me to Bomb Troops

The story of a 6-year-old Afghan boy who says he thwarted an effort by Taliban militants to trick him into being a suicide bomber provoked tears and anger at a meeting of tribal leaders.

The account from Juma Gul, a dirt-caked child who collects scrap metal for money, left American soldiers dumbfounded that a youngster could be sent on such a mission. Afghan troops crowded around the boy to call him a hero.

Though the Taliban dismissed the story as propaganda, at a time when U.S. and NATO forces are under increasing criticism over civilian casualties, both Afghan tribal elders and U.S. military officers said they were convinced by his dramatic account.

I don't doubt that it is true.  It certainly would not be the first time a terrorist has used a child as  mule for a bomb attack.  It has happened in many wars where the fighters have no value on the life of innocents.

The Taliban and Al Qaeda have no regard for the lives of civilians, they prove that with each innocent life killed by one of there suicide bombers.

Luckily this kid was smart.

Juma said that sometime last month Taliban fighters forced him to wear a vest they said would spray out flowers when he touched a button. He said they told him that when he saw American soldiers, "throw your body at them."

The militants cornered Juma in a Taliban-controlled district in southern Afghanistan's Ghazni province. Their target was an impoverished youngster being raised by an older sister—but also one who proved too street-smart for their plan.

"When they first put the vest on my body I didn't know what to think, but then I felt the bomb," Juma told The Associated Press as he ate lamb and rice after being introduced to the elders at this joint U.S.- Afghan base in Ghazni. "After I figured out it was a bomb, I went to the Afghan soldiers for help."
