Tragic: U.S.-led air raid kills seven Afghan children
No sarcasm here at all. All civilian deaths are tragic, and horrific. I reserve judgement on what happened until it is investigated.
I find that sadly not comforting. It makes me wonder if the kids were in a war zone being used as human shields. Our troops bear the burden, but if the kids were intentionally placed in harms way, well there is blame to go around.
At least seven children have been killed in a U.S.-led coalition air strike in a religious school in Afghanistan, the coalition said on Monday, amid rising anger over civilian deaths from foreign military operations.
Something here makes me pause….
Violence has surged in recent months in Afghanistan after the traditional winter lull, with foreign forces launching attacks against Taliban guerrilla strongholds in the south and east and the Taliban hitting back with a string of suicide bombings. On Sunday, a bomb at a bus depot in Kabul killed at least 35 people.
I didn’t see the story when it ran so I don’t know how much attention it got. But the two stories make me compare the outrage and I am disturbed.
Is there as much outrage by the Afghani people to the Taliban who not only kill indiscriminately civilian and military, but they do so as a deliberate target.
Our civilian deaths are unintended and regretted not only by the people, but by the country. Yet we bear more blame then the insurgent Taliban.
Living here in the relatively peaceful US we can imagine the horror of living in a war zone.
We weep for our fallen soldiers, but it never hurts to be reminded that there are fallen elsewhere being grieved and some of them innocent non-combatants.
But we also need to make note that the media and critics will indeed latch onto the tragic death of those kids, but will all but ignore all the innocent kids killed by the Taliban and Al Qaeda in the normal course of operations. The international outrage at our troops is apparent but not at the rebels. And again, remember who picks school yards and lunch rooms and buses as targets. It sure as hell isn’t the USMC.
We have a national obligation to play nice, to show more remorse and to grieve our mistakes. We do so out of a sense of responsibility. We do so out of our morals.
The Taliban and Al Qaeda rejoice at every civilian death, no matter what circumstances, because every death is that much more fear.
And leaving will not change that, for they will continue their program of terror until they are in power, where they can once again rule by terror, or until we kill them all.
I vote for option b.

Daily, it appears that Option B is going to be the only long term, effective solution. The practical results of that are almost unimaginable to contemplate but the practical approach seems obvious.
It is said that every warrior knows that war is hell. There is no nice way to wage one. That being said, perhaps we ought to consider prosecuting this one to the fullest in order that it be over with as quickly as possible and the hell finished.
It would seem the options are to drag this thing out forever or to get it over with quickly. I’m voting for Option B in this one as well.
Thanks for the thoughtful post …

This will be no comfort either, but it is always the innocent who suffer the most in war. Even with precise combat methods it remains unavoidable. One can only expect that the species will some day rise above this primitive conflict resolution.
Hi there, This is just what I was looking for!
