Lake Tahoe burns - and reminds me of politics
I know that nature needs wildfires. I know this intellectually. I know that the fire clears choking underbrush, helps dormant seeds germinate and all manner of other subtle wonders.
And the newspapers are full of stories showing how forest mismanagement of the eco system has contributed to the tinder box conditions.
But I love Lake Tahoe. There are a few magic places on earth to me, and Lake Tahoe is one of them.
I spent several wonderful summers there and had some wonder experiences.
Not just the Casinos mind you. Granted that Harrah’s is one of my favorites, but I have spent more time on the lake itself then in the gambling dens.
My father has a sailboat you see, and those summer we spent sailing across and around the lake, or inner tubing in the lagoons and even jet skiing.
We sailed over to Emerald Cove to see Vikingsholm, an amazing place.
And the mountains had their attractions, as I took the tram to Heavenly Valley in the summer and my girl and I spent a magical day hiking in the woods. The view was spectacular.
So a part of me mourns the loss of the beauty that was.
But I live in hope for the beauty that will be, because in time the recovery will be complete and the result will be a restoration of the forest.
And since I am fond of stupid analogies, I have to note how this reminds me of the present political climate.
There is a lot of brush clearing going on the Republican party as many have been voted from office and more face tough races. The liberals fires have made quite the impact.
The message should have been clear: mismanagement of the public trust has left the politicians dry and easy to set ablaze. They have themselves to blame and no one else. Failure to follow through on the promises made, failure to hold to conservative values and a complete failure to maintain a concerted line has made them vulnerable.
The presidency is also vulnerable. Yes, I have my hopes on Fred! but that is not a sure thing, because the triad of Hillary, the Goracle and Obama will be hard to beat.
But the clear out has happened before. The Democrats win for a while, then they lose the country as they too follow their personal agendas.
Consider that last week congress had a lower approval rating the the president.
The fire will burn itself out and the forest will be restored.

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article , but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
We have to see things for the long term bro, like you say. The forest will restore itself. We need to think in less selfish terms as a society. Yes we hate to lose some beauty in the short term but in the long run it will be fine.
Lake Tahoe will heal. I love it too, just like I love this country but healing is in order.
