Kos, the Liberals and the Military
Liberals despise the military.
OK, to be fair, not all of them do. But look at the plethora of liberal organizations that seem hell bent against the Military. People like Cindy Sheehan, the Code Pink and more. They attack the ROTC, military recruitment and even spit on the military people. Yes…they really do that sometimes. I have video.
Sure, some of their dislike is of the WAR, not the troops. But the fact is that their disdain of the military is fairly apparent.
Take Kos. This Diary is not isolated (via LGF)
Daily Kos: I Still Support the Troops! (Not Really)
Here’s A. Whitney Brown’s latest embarrassingly puerile rant against the military; even though they know they’re under scrutiny, the Kos Kidz are addicted to this kind of stuff: Daily Kos: I Still Support Our Troops!
For this view, I have been called Anti-Military.
My response is this: Who on earth could be Pro-Military! The purpose of a military is to kill. It is at best a necessary evil. Necessary only because someone else has a military that threatens our survival.
Pro-Military? That’s like being Pro-Abortion! Or Pro-chemo-therapy!
No! In a world of ignorance, greed, and ambition it is a practical matter that we defend our peace and security against the militaries of others, but the goal is always to have as little military as needed, and no more than absolutely necessary. Currently we spend more than all the rest of the world put together.
A military is an extortion demanded of us by other militaries, a practical acquiesence to the world as it is, but only a sadist, a brute, a glory-monger, a thief or a tyrant can look at a military as a good thing, noble in itself.
Only a society blind with avarice or fear would see a military as anything other than an indictment of our inability to persuade! And yes, an indictment of our courage to try.
Here is an Unknown Known - something we all know but are not aware we know: A Man Cannot Be a Hero in Service To an Unjust Cause. What kind of society would rob it’s soldiers in such a way? A twisted, sickened society.
But the Liberals support the troops right?
“Do I still support the individual men and women who have given so much to serve their country? No. I think they’re a bunch of idiots. I also think they’re morally retarded.”
Yea he really said that. I re-read that, and frankly I don’t know how to respond to it. Sure, a military is a harsh reality. But during the Tsunami and the hurricanes people depend on our disgusting military for their survival.
People like John Kerry make jokes about the ignorance of the military. The Democrats in Congress plays games with the Military’s funding, holding necessary funds ransom for pork spending. And ending the war is a punch line in a campaign speech, nothing more.
Kos recently lamented the anti military tone of some diaries even as he himself slaps the military in the face by claiming service he did not actually serve in.
Still No Correction In Washington Post Piece
I’ve now written the reporter and the editor, but have not corrected their assertion that Kos is a “Persian Gulf War veteran.”
Nor, of course, have they shared with us how the reporter came to believe this to be true. Given that Kos has previously claimed “I wore combat boots” and “I served during the Gulf War” during the same Reliable Sources appearance, it seems most likely the reporter was misled by Kos himself.
It’s a clear error, and an easily determined one, but the Washington Post just doesn’t have the time, I guess.
He clearly did not serve in the Persian Gulf, he is like me a Persian Gulf ERA veteran. A meaningless distinction, but then again, a necessary one for things like veterans preference in civil service jobs. He seems to like to parade his veterans status, even to embellish it.
So I wasn’t surprised to hear that this kid got hammered at yKos.
Serviceman Shouted Down at YearlyKos
The American Prospect: AN ODD CLOSE.
As the Military and Progressives panel came to an end, a young man in uniform stood up to argue that the surge was working, and cutting down on Iraqi casualties. The moderator largely freaked out. When other members of the panel tried to answer his question, he demanded they “stand down.” He demanded the questioner give his name, the name of his commander, and the name of his unit. And then he closed the panel, no answer offered or allowed, and stalked off the stage.
Wes Clark took the mic and tried to explain what had just occurred: The argument appears to be that you’re not allowed to participate in politics while wearing a uniform, or at least that you shouldn’t, and that the questioner was engaging in a sort of moral blackmail, not to mention a violation of the rules, by doing so. Knowing fairly little about the army, I can’t speak to any of that. But it was an uncomfortable few moments, and seemed fairly contrary to the spirit of the panel to roar down the member of the military who tried to speak with a contrary voice.
It was partially right and partially not. Depending on how you interpret the regs, the lad might have been precluded from attending in Uniform.
But the fact is that his ideas were offensive, not his appearance. This was disrespect to a member of the service using his uniform as the excuse, in my opinion.
Had one of their favored military appeared and tried to speak they would have been lauded and loved. This was just intolerance towards contrarian opinions.
For example, if it had been Pvt Beuchamp as he was detailing the abuses in Iraq, the modern version of the winter soldier, the new John Kerry.
Of course Beauchamp has now recanted. Gasp: He Lied!
What they know is that most of the military support the war, want to win and think winning is not only possible, but probable, particularly with the recent success with the Surge.
The American public seems to agree.
I suppose one could say that it had almost nowhere to go but up, but this is the second national poll to show support for the war in Iraq increasing. USA Today has a teaser on the poll today, and will offer the details tomorrow. Like all polls, sampling will be key, but a subtle shift can be seen:
USA TODAY’s Susan Page reports that President Bush is making some headway in arguing that the increase in U.S. troops in Iraq is showing military progress.
In the latest USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, taken Friday through Sunday, the proportion of those who said the additional troops are “making the situation better” rose to 31% from 22% a month ago. Those who said it was “not making much difference” dropped to 41% from 51%.
About the same number said it was making things worse: 24% now, 25% a month ago.
It’s not a dramatic shift, at least not yet. More people believe that we’re making things better than those who believe we’re making ut worse, which is good, and fewer people believe it to be a wash. However, two-thirds of the respondents want a pullout before next April 1st, and a majority still call the war a mistake, although both numbers have declined.
This follows a similar result from a New York Times poll two weeks ago. At the time, war opponents called it an anomaly. It looks like a trend now, one prompted by good news from the surge. If the news continues to improve, the Democrats may find it difficult to insist on the withdrawal in September.
Not only that, but Sister Toldjah notes this:
To top off this “bad news for Democrats” segment, the Associated Press’ military writer David Burns has an analysis that shows that our troops are making gains in Iraq.
But don’t worry, the Democrats will continue to fight as hard as possible to delivery is a sure and speedy defeat.
Yea. I am not being fair to the liberals, so my conservative bias is showing.
Well, the liberals are not being fair to the military in their twisted support of the military, so I feel like protesting it. I guess that’s just how I like supporting the troops.
