I’m back online
Sorry about the absence. I could make some profound excuses and try to look good, but the honest truth is, I was tired and I needed a break.
One thing I am learning is when my body says slow down, take a break and relax, I listen. I’ve been working pretty hard in the day job, trying to keep up with the daily stresses of an active family, practicing guitar when I can and trying to slip in some video games here and there.
And sometimes all that takes more hours then you have so you start losing sleep.
But there is also a mental weariness that crashes down on sometimes.
While it may not be apparent to many, blogging is work. Hours researching, reading and composing to make that final result readable, memorable and most important to me, sensible.
Add to that the occasional feeling of over load as there are so many things going on to write about. You just get tired.
Tired of the parade of fools in the presidential campaign. Why fools? Because we are no where near the serious times in the campaign, with the election being so far off. What this means is an incredible amount of time and money are being wasted for these idiots to parade their ideas to people who are frankly getting a bad case of campaign burnout.
When the real campaigning comes, will any of us have the energy to care? And is that what they are afraid of, or what they are counting on?
I am tired of the endless debates where people spend all their time complaining about false issues, and ignore the real ones. Debates like:
-
Abortion
-
Global Warming
-
Immigration
-
Free speech
-
Civil Rights
There are so many, I can go on all day.
I’m tired of the endless debate about the war in Iraq with most of the people debating it having no idea how to fix what they claim is broken.
Lots of things to grow weary of.
So why do I do it?
Two reasons. First, I think it is important for as many voices to exist saying as many things as possible, and getting the word out in as many mediums as we can. We need involvement and engagement, and maybe someone will read something here that will stimulate them to do something somewhere else. In other words, while it doesn’t have to be me doing it, it needs to be done, and why not me as much as anyone else.
Two, I enjoy it. I enjoy the sense of satisfaction when I break a small story and get a nod from another blogger. Or when I get the occasional thank you from a reader who learned something, or found some value in it. I get satisfaction out of the work I put into a post when I see the finished product out there, and know that my words have gone forth.
So it continues to be worth it to me, and anything worth doing is worth doing well. I think a short recess helps that.
So pardon my short break. As of tonight, Leaning Straight Up is back online.

Glad you are back. I love reading honest, from the heart posts like this. You and I blog for the same reason, to get our voice out there and hopefully inform someone of something they didn’t read somewhere else.
Welcome back. I’m headed over to read your guitar post.
NFL Pre-season week #1…
Oh wow. I’ve been sleeping on the job, man. I didn’t even know there were games Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and tomorrow! Holy cow. Well, let’s get busy with the scores, shall we?
I saw the game on Saturday between t ……
Very well spoken. The secret is that we all need a break sometimes. I happen to get brain-drain once in a while myself. My little trick, because I promised myself to write at least once a day, is to write something like this, “I have a lot to do today to catch up. I’ll be back, but I just wanted to stop by and say hello.”
One time I was so sick I could barely make it out of bed. I wrote a three word post. Yes, “I’m sick” (I’m=I am. That equals two words. lol) I’m sure you can figure your own words. Those were just examples.
Why do I write even when I’m sick? Because I promised. Why did I promise? Because I would write, then I would not write without saying why. That is when I first began. I feel guilty now if I don’t! If you would like, I have some links to Pakistani and Indian papers. I also links to African papers and South American papers. Talk about brain overload!
