9/11 + 6 = Nausea

Published by Karl at 11:06 pm under 9/11

It took just a few days, it seemed, to galvanize the country in the wake of 9/11.  We were united in an unheard of fashion against a common and clearly evil enemy.

Now, 6 years later, we are hopelessly divided: divided by ourselves and a struggle for power where the politics of the war mean more the the goals and values of the war, and our enemy takes comfort in our struggle and mocks our hesitation.

It is sickening to see the posturing in Washington DC as our supposed leaders use the war on terror as a campaign tool.  While the Democrats are more disgusting int he disregard for the the lives they risk, many of the Republicans have lately soured me as they show themselves to be limp and weak, and unduly concerned with reelection instead of leadership.

In 2000 I was not impressed with Lieberman, as he seemed soft and incapable of the degree of determination we need in a leader.

Now, 6 years later he remains one of only a few die hard Democrats who are willing to put the needs of the country ahead of their party line.  Ironic.

I can only hope as we take yet another day to remember our fallen, hope that we can someday recover the unity that ones empowered us.

Before its too late.

Nice Blog and ditto on your sentiments about where we are 6 years later. After the BS the Democrats and MoveOn.org dished out to General Petraeus yesterday, I am totally convinced there just aren’t any strong, common sense people in politics anymore. All one has to do is read Michael Yon’s blog and you get the sense of just how much good this man and the surge is doing to bring more Iraqis hope and the understanding that we are there for them and troop morale is greatly improved because they once again feel like they have a leader and a purpose in the dangerous work they are doing. Not one of those worthless scumbags in Congress that were attacking the General with negatives before he even spoke took the time to say Thank You for your service or anything else. They find it so easy to forget exactly why this all happened and what the goal should be. They would rather worry about the effects of Global Warming than stop to think about how they will feel sifting through rubble at the local school or Walmart, looking for what is left of a loved one. I have lost faith in both parties to come up with a “real candidate”… we need a strong one, we need another Teddy Roosevelt… honest, strong, patriotic and Nobody wanted to mess with him. Unfortunately, our society doesn’t produce men like that or if they do, commonsense kicks in as soon as they hear men like General P being called “General Betray Us” and think… I’m not getting myself into that!!! What rock is it that these people crawl out from under that they feel free to attack a honorable warrior and patriot like that! How stinking low!
