Teen Faces Punishment For Long Hair: ACLU called

Published by Karl at 6:00 pm under OTA, Schools

Being a long hair kinda guy, this is irritating.  Since when do schools have the right to require boys to have short hair?  So they make girls style their’s a certain way too?  This is ridiculous.

Teen Faces Punishment For Long Hair

A Leakey High School senior is being told by his school district to cut his hair, but the student claimed religious values ban him from cutting it.

Now, Ben Daly, 18, said he’s being punished by the school district.

Daly said he is willing to take it all the way to the Supreme Court. In the meantime, the Daly said he has contacted the American Civil Liberties Union.

I’ve gone here since kindergarten. I know everybody, basically,” Daly said.

In the small town of Leakey, everyone knows about Daly’s haircut fiasco.

“My faith is Rastafarian,” Daly said.

Rastafarianism is a religion created in the early 1900s.

I think we are missing the point.  Religion is not the issue, the right to have your hair the way you want is.  Long hair is not a friggin crime.

Idiots.

I may not be the biggest fan of longhair on men, it isn’t up to me to determine how they wear it. His hair doesn’t appear to be a distraction, therefore, why is it an issue? I think ithas more to do with his religious beliefs than the hair. His isn’t a “recognized” religion by many, therefore it isn’t in the eyes of that school.

This might be a bit sarcastic but here goes:
The ACLU will not fight this on his behalf , He’s a white kid, in the bible belt and he has got to be the first white kid I have ever seen claiming rasta….. but hey whatever.

If he claimed “ISLAM” he’d be a shoe in for preferential treatment.

All I know, is that the notion that there is a public school with a hair dress code bothers me, and not just because I have long hair.

So now that it’s time to graduate, his hair is a problem? It takes years to grow those dreads and no one noticed until now? Why can’t he just pull his hair back in a ponytail or a braid for the day? He said is only allowed out for 15 minutes a day? What?, do they have him in lock down?

If I was one of his parents I would get a good lawyer and take out all of the idiots that are making these looney rules. Have these rules always been there? Or were they just made up for the occasion? Has anyone check the validity of the jerks making all of these rules. What happened to the school board? How do they justify only letting him outside for 15 minutes a day? If not then they are holding him hostage during the school day. I do believe that crime is still on the books.

Did anyone call the State Attorney General about this?
This is just as ridiculous as the school that threw the little girl out of school for waring pink Pooh socks one day. Now it going to cost her parents to get a lawyer and have to go to court to get the child back in school.

There needs to be some serious looking in to the schools in this country.

Please let us know if the ACLU *(Anti-american criminal liberties union) gets involved. I have to agree with Robert. If this kid is not an illegal immigrant or Islamic terrorist the ACLU couldn’t care less. It is not their “agenda” to help Americans.

My son is 17 year old senior that plays varsity soccer. The coach has a hair restriction that the bangs can not be pulled down and touch the students eyebows. He got benched for one week on Monday for violation of the coach’s hair policy. He had just got his hair cut on Saturday. He was benched for the game on Monday, there was a college scout looking for prespective players, my son did not get a chance to be seen by the scout. Any Advice?
