Mom arrested for DUI after 8 year old boy calls 911- FROM INSIDE CAR

Published by Karl at 9:52 pm under Child abuse, Idiots, OTA, TGIF, values

In a world where stupid parent tricks happen all the time, this one takes the cake.

It’s a pathetic thing when the kid has more bloody common sense then the parent.

Mom arrested for DUI after boy calls 911 from car

An 8-year-old boy riding in a car with his mom called 911 several times to report that she wasn’t “acting normal,” leading to her arrest for investigation of drunken driving and other charges, authorities said.

Paulette Lynn Spears, 33, was arrested Saturday after she drove to a fire station and said she had a medical problem.

Gross stupidity is not a medical problem, otherwise they would cure it.

Guided by her son’s description of what he could see from the car, as well as by global positioning technology to track the phone calls, deputies arrived at the station less than a minute later.

“He said ’I don’t know where we are, and Mom’s not acting normal,’” sheriff’s Sgt. Randon M. Walker said.

At one point, Spears took a cellular telephone from the boy, told the dispatcher not to worry and hung up, Walker said. The boy called back, and again his mother cut short the call, Walker said.

“The mother kept interrupting the 8-year-old,” he said. “It happened at least twice.”

At one point, Walker said, Spears apparently bit the boy’s hand to get the telephone away from him.

Just lovely.  Will CPS be called and this woman lose her parental rights?

Four minutes before the boy’s first call, dispatchers had received a report of car that matched the description of Spears’ car being driven erratically.

The boy and a 5-year-old child, who was also inn the car, were placed with an aunt. As of Monday, Spears remained in jail for investigation of drunken driving, two counts of reckless endangerment and assault of a child. It was not clear if she had a lawyer to speak for her because she had not appeared in court.

Good.  Throw the book at her.

Records show she has at least one conviction for drunken driving.

At least?  As in maybe more?  Wonderful.

I wonder if she has a history of biting her kids too?

It just stuns me the magnitude of the stupidity on some people, it really does.

How do people get this way?  We hear it over and over.  Parents leave kids in the car and go to casinos.   They act negligently and kids get hurt or die, and not just from direct abuse, but just from a failure to give a shit.

And when the kid is dead, our bleeding heart soft society says “oh don’t prosecute, they have suffered enough”.

Bullshit.

Stupid should hurt.  Negligence should be punished and outright disregard fro safety and intentional endangerment should leave permanent marks.

It genuinely pisses me off the amount of excuses people make.

And we will hear them in this case, like all the others.

But I guess we shouldn’t be surprised.  Children live for nine months not even being considered a life.  Maybe this is just adding a few years on to it.

Yea I am being unfair to abortionists.  I admit it.  Aside form the life aspect, i dislike what abortion becomes sometimes, which is a “get out of jail free” card that erases bad choices.

Yes, yes, I know.  Rape…incest…life of the mother.  Fine.  Even if I grant emergent exceptions, the fact is most abortions are convenience, not necessity.  And I think that is a problem.  But maybe I will quit that rant for now and return to stupid parents.

Here is a classic example of that forgiving mindset:

Yesterday we brought you the tragic story of a 2-year-old girl who died after her mother left her in a locked car for eight hours as the temperature approached 100 degrees outside — and came close to 150 degrees inside.

The mother, Brenda Nesselroad-Slaby, had changed her daily routine that morning before going to work as an assistant principal at a middle school in Ohio. Instead of dropping off her daughter with the babysitter, she went to buy donuts for her fellow teachers, then went to work — forgetting that her daughter was still asleep in the back seat.

Police brought Nesselroad-Slaby in for questioning after the incident, and her pain and guilt are apparent, as this video shows (it’s tough to watch). WATCH VIDEO

It’s tougher for me to think about a lifeless body having essentially been baked.

Although police questioned Nesselroad-Slaby, Clermont County prosecutor Don White decided not to seek an indictment, because Ohio law stipulates that “reckless conduct” must be present. Mr. White said that although leaving the child was “a substantial lapse of due care,” it did not meet the definition of “reckless conduct.”

How the hell is it not?  A child is dead.  Her failure to act responsibly is the cause.

A lot of people have had a strong reaction to this story. Some believe that she should be tried, that this was criminal negligence. Others say that having to deal with the accidental death of her daughter is punishment enough. (You can vote on todayshow.com.

Some people are full of poo.

I’m certainly no expert on Ohio law, but it seems like common sense that this woman — while maybe not acting “recklessly” — acted so negligently that it led to the death of her child. And while we can certainly feel sorry for her over the loss of her child, she was responsible for endangering the life of a child.

Exactly.

In the past 10 years, there have been about 340 heat-related deaths of children trapped in cars. Charges were filed in about half of those deaths. Of the cases that have gone to trial, 81 percent resulted in convictions or guilty pleas, half of which brought jail sentences.

The comments in this blog run the spectrum of responses.

Some defensive:

I am so broken hearted over this story. I cannot imagine the pain that the woman is feeling but I can see how it could possibly happen to anyone. Not that there is an excuse for what she did, it was painfully irresponsible and negligent-but it was an honest accident and horrible mistake. Women today are pushed to their limits with responsibilies of work and family and this poor child and family suffered the ultimate conseqence. May God be with her as she tries to cope with what she’s done.

Women are too busy?

Some unforgiving:

This mom should go to prison for a very long time.  Eight hours is no accident.  Her child should have more important than doughnuts for co-workers.

Some somewhere in the middle:

I think the mom should be charged, but not serve time in jail. It was a mistake, but it was also negligent. She should at the least have some fines and community service.

Sad.  Substitute mom for dad.  Would this get the same result?  No.  Dad’s are expected to be idiots with their kids because what do men know?  They aren’t nurturers.  A father would have been locked up.

There has long been that double standard.  Moms are loving, and naturally nurturing I am told.  Moms like Andrea Yates?  Like Susan Smith?  Or like this one from last month?

A mother drowns her five children in the bathtub. A woman beats her sons to death with rocks. Now a suburban mom is accused of dousing her three daughters with gasoline and setting them on fire.

In the latest case, neighbors said a 7-year-old pulled from a burning house Saturday with her two younger sisters screamed, “Why mommy? Why mommy? Why did you do this to me?”

Alysha Green, 29, accused of coaxing her children into a closet and burning them, had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder but stopped taking her medication, according to documents filed by Child Protective Services.

Ten bucks says she gets off on an insanity plea.

I have come to the conclusion that this mythical nurturing instinct has been partially lost in our callous and corrupt world.  I wonder if in the drive to redefine roles in men and women, we built up a tolerance to it.

Oh sure, it is still there, but too many women seem to have been raised not to give a crap.

Yes, there are plenty of good moms out there, my anger is to the idiots, and to the society that coddles them.

Britney Spears anyone?  (not that Kevin is any better)

It is just sick.  Stupid people should not be allowed to breed.

Regarding Brenda Nesselroad-Slaby — “Reckless conduct”? That’s too mild a charge to fail to prosecute. It should have been “Negligent homicide”. She was negligent. As a result she killed her child.
