Where’s Bryan Suits? Local talk radio loses its best show UPDATED
UPDATE: I have been in contact with Bryan, and hopefully he will be back on the air somewhere soon.
I don’t know any details, but this is Bryan we are talking about, and you cannot keep him down. He seems very optimistic.
I passed on some of the comments, and I am sure he appreciates the support. I will continue to pass on your messages and comments.
He also promised to keep in touch and let me know where this road takes him, and I will pass on anything I can.
Finally, I emailed the station for comment. No response.
OK, this is a local thing. Apologies to non-Seattle readers.
So there I was, at work this afternoon, and I realized it was time for the afternoon entertainment called the Bryan Suits show on talk Radio KVI.
I opened my shortcut to their internet stream, and….nothing.
So I open their web site and find all traces of Bryan gone from the site, and a complete lineup shake up, with apparently no warning.
I finally got some confirmation (such as it is) on Blatherwatch, a local leftist site that enjoys trashing conservative radio:
Bryan Suits, 1999-2007 R.I.P
The Bryan Suits Show, afternoon drive (3-6p) was abruptly dropped from the KVI line-up Friday afternoon. His picture has been purged from the website like a bad dream.
One less live & local talk host in town, one less host to fry.
..
Suits had been languishing in the ratings for over a year, and this move was much predicted, especially by us.
When Suits returned to his KVI talk job in March 2005 after a year’s deployment in Iraq, P-I radio columnist Bill Virgin wrote, “When you’ve been on the front lines of a war, and history, talking about the latest outrage in Olympia or the Michael Jackson trial, Bryan Suits concedes, ‘is going to seem mundane.’
Frankly I may stop listening to KVI. The Commentaters, now moving to his afternoon slot are a kind of uncivil Hannity and Colmes who argue over trivialities as often as they engage in stimulating debate.
Don’t get me wrong, I like them, but they frustrate me with the constant battle to talk over each other, and their positions become repetitious sometimes.
I will likely still listen to them, but overall my day is still ruined.
Bryan had the freshest voice in talk radio. He was witty, sharp and frequently piercing in his observations.
He was also not afraid to step on the toes of conservatives when they were being idiots, and maybe his incorrectness was his down fall.
Blatherwatch was right on one point: This is a loss of another local presence and show and that alone is worthy of consideration. Its sad to see local radio become less and less local.
This leaves a serious lack of local shows from 9-12 every day, and frankly to try and pick the least unpleasant of Rush and Dr Laura from 9-12 is is really not worth it. But that only leaves Dave Ross and frankly his pomposity is also unappealing, so that means time for a CD at 9.
I hope Bryan is out there ans reads this and knows his show will be sorely missed by my whole office, and I hope he gets a new gig soon.
Let me know where so I can tune in.
And KVI?
Bite me.

Hey, just trolling for Bryan Suits information, I too loved his show and just can’t stand that KVI dropped him, if that’s the case… (and they kept mark levine?!?!?) I’m trying to optimistically hope that maybe ktth lured him over for a better deal for the Michael Savage slot…
I loved his humor and funny references, and witful insights. I hope he stays local or at least goes to a station that streams so we loyal suits fans can still listen.

Hi there. You can listen to Dennis Prager from 9am until noon pst. I don’t believe I’ve ever heard him lose his temper. He also has guests on his program. I think you might like him. Have a nice Veterans’ Day.
Honoring Our Veterans on this special day, Nov. 11…
This is Veterans’ Day weekend, and I have an e-mail I would like share with you. They, better than I, can voice what and how I feel about this precious and solemn day….
Indeed. The Suits show was not-to-be-missed radio — and I also hope he is picked up by another station (with format intact). And Rosemary is right, Dennis Prager (on 1300 KOL) is THE superior show 9-noon above all others!
Weblog AwARDs 2007!…
I won…We won! Thank YOU!!!
……
Truly a sad day in Seattle. I was just trying to figure out what the heck happened to Bryan when I came across your blog. IMO KVI is screwing up what was once a great station. I hope Bryan resurfaces locally and soon. Thanks for your post. The info is much appreciated. CK
Karl,
Happy Birthday! Thank you for your service and continuing the good fight.
Have a great day.
I’m usually at work during the old Suits timeslot. The only things I listen to KVI for anymore are an occasional listen to the Sean Hannity Show and Mark Levin.
Sean’s show is often too much about Sean, and so I’d often rather listen to Michael Medved.
Mark’s show is almost always better than anything else on, especially since it’s paired up against Michael Savage’s show on KTTH.
KVI once was a decent station, worth listening to. They’ve gone downhill a lot in the last year and a half.
It’s truly a shame.
More Football Than You Can Shake A Stick At — November 10, 2007…
Let’s start with the shocker of the day for me. Mississippi State BEAT Alabama by a score of 17-12. ‘Bama was ranked #22 and was expected to win this game handily. In the past the Bulldogs usually had one upset win a season and I thought they used …
The replacing of the Commentators with Dr. Laura is in itself a huge demonstration of KVI’s move away from Political Engagement with the Audience.
Brian’s ratings were probably not all that good. He was most certainly a good host, just not a Drive Time Host. His flair for subject matter that differs from the Drive Time Audience.
Clearly the KVI Program Manager is not in touch with his audience either. Dr. L is certainly no competition for Dave Ross or Rush Limbaugh. What are they thinking. I will now listen to Rush. I have been a frequent listener of the Commentators, I don’t or won’t listen to them in the afternoon.. I used to listen to Brian Suits. I also have Satellite Radio and many other choices. KVI What are you thinking………
A FROMER LISTENER AND I’LL STAY THAT WAY!
I can’t believe Bryan is gone! He was the best host they had. I loved his dark, wicked sense of humor. What they really need to do is drop the & Company from Kirby’s show. I hope everyone emails KVI and try to get him back. I sent mine this morning. WE WANT BRYAN!!!
I leave my radio tuned (yes mine still has a dial) to KVI only because I loved to listen to Bryan Suits. What am I going to do now?
Mark Levin was entertaining before his new book came out and now all he talks about is pets. Sean Hannity DOES talk about himself too much. The Commentators are occassionally worth it, but Carlson talks over Schram sooo much - he was more stomachable when he was solo - Now he’s just rude.
Kirby Wilbur is worth my time, if I were up at that hour.
I miss Bryan and will have to find something else to listen to while working.
I love how radio stations just erase hosts from their sites when a show is cancelled with no mention of the change. I consider that a slap in the face to the fans of the hosts show. KVI poofs Bryan from their site and KTTH did the same thing when Laura Ingraham was dropped from their rotation. Screw both of em IMO. Seattle/Tacoma Talk radio sucks.
Looking forward to the day we can hear Bryan again.
KVI has lost a listener.
It has taken a year.
It just goes silent.
I would love to let kvi know how pissed i am at them, but It probably wouldnt matter…they’ve done this before and no doubt will do it again. Bryan will surface again and we’ll all look forward to hearing from him, and if he bags a bison we could just invite ourselves over for a grillin’. Much love Bryan. I’m here to fix the pool….Bow chicka bow bow!!!!
KVI has lost me. Cancelling Bryan Suits, before Veteran’s Day no less! I have lost all respect. They got alot of “splaining” to do. Good luck Bryan I hope you’ve got a bigger, fatter, local contract. Let your loyal fans know. IIIISSSLLLAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!
Chalk up another ex-KVI listener. What a shame, Bryan was the only fresh voice at the old KVI. Too bad some of the KOL and KTTH reach doesn’t go as far as megakvi. I guess it’s FM now.
Bryan, godspeed with the new gig, I hope it is in the Seattle area.
Bryan Suits’ sudden removal from KVI has affected me so much that I even had a dreamt last night I was telling him how sorry and disappointed I was about the situation! For my money, he was easily the best host on talk radio, local or national. Here is what I wrote to KVI:
“It is difficult for me to express my depth of disappointment regarding Bryan Suits’ removal last week from KVI, and right before Veteran’s Day no less! As a young conservative, I listened to him every weekday and always enjoyed his wit, humor, military knowledge, and impeccable debating ability.
I will NOT listen to Dr. Laura; I might listen to The Commentators but am currently too upset with KVI to do so; I will probably listen to Rush Limbaugh on KTTH from 9:00am to noon; And I WILL definately listen to Bryan Suits wherever he lands, whether it is at KTTH or somewhere else.
Seattle talk radio has lost a valuable local voice and it is hard for me to believe that at the very least, there is no room for him in another timeslot at KVI. Unfortunately, you have probably lost a faithful listener.
Sincerely, Andrew from Kenmore”
Hopefully Bryan lands at KTTH or another station in Seattle soon, in the meantime we should form a support group…
When I first heard the change on kvi, I went to their web site and only saw Dr. Laura there. I called the station and couldn’t get anyone and left a voice mail. I called back and had to leave another v.m. for the program mgr. (He was under the desk hiding) I told them that their line up sucks, the web page had only Dr. Laura on it! No brian and I couldn’t stand Ken Schram on the Commentators. In other words Im on Kiro now. I see that their Arbitron numbers are not good.
BRYAN SUITS-1000
KVI-00000000
first of all, i got totally addicted to Brian Suits. Plain and simple. The way he talks and crafts his sentences is addicting as well as his overwhelming ability to ‘reason’ so eloquently. My suspicion is the Ken Schram thing, where he totally stemrolled Ken with perfect logic over the governmental response to the california wildfires. Brian has this uncanny ability to see through the fog and pinpoint logic, reason and facts so quickly, that Ken Schram didn’t stand a chance, and actually hung up on Brian once during their exchanges.
Brian’s a tough guy, entertaining, polite, has integrity, and that was too much for the Schram supporters, and I’m sure he has plenty. Schram has toughed it out in the Seattle market for decades, and with that history comes friendships that unfortunately seep into entertainment where they don’t belong. Schram is predictable, Brian is inventive, courteous and tough at the same time–that’s hard to beat by anyone’s standards.
I can’t listen to John and Ken fake argue at 3pm, and even when they seem to really be contentious with one another, they’re still both softballs at heart, and I can see right through it every time, which leads to annoyance and boredom instantaneously. Brian could always pull a rabbit out of his hat with his witty dialogue, unfailing factual stances, and kept me guessing from begining to end. His trick, is NOT saying the obvious. That’s really really hard to do, especially in radio, but he pulled it off day in and day out. He’a a multitasking multi-thinker while he conversates which is fun to listen to even if you’re not into the politics of the day.
For the record, I’ve never met Brian, I’m an independant contracted courier in the greater Seattle area, and absolutely hate it, when 3pm comes around, because there is NOTHING to listen to anymore. 770 has the audacity to run the Sonics during that time, where I seriously wonder why Brian isn’t throwing it down for them at the 3 O’clock hour.
Anyway, talk radio sucks now.
Thanks a lot!
Don C.
Seattle
Bryan,
We miss you and stuff. Sad to see KVI in such a tailspin. Let us know where to find you, even on the interweb.
Later,
Don
Bryan,
I’ve removed KVI from all my radios buttons. Their slap (Veteran’s Week, no less) will revisit them tenfold. Let us know where you land bud. And lay off the donuts, eh. We want you around for a long time.
KD
I was stunned and disheartened to learn Bryan Suits was no longer with KVI. His knowledge of local, regional, national and world issues and the ease with which he informed and carried on conversations and commentary laced with wit, combined with his lack of shrillness, which permeates so many talk radio shows, oftentimes made me wish my hour-long commute was longer.
I sent an e-mail to KVI expressing my dismay and disappointment, as I thought he was the best in their line up. I also sent an e-mail to KTTH expressing my dismay, disappointment and hope that he’d be picked up by another station…hint, hint.
I cannot stand to listen to Kens voice. I catch Kirby when I can, but Hannity is getting a little old. I cannot believe they removed Bryan completely.
Bye Bye KVI.
I was searching the web to see if Bryan had been moved to a different time slot and found this site. I am a conservative but not a lunatic conservative and it seems that KVI has decided that they have to have far right/left hosts. Kirby has become downright rude to anyone with a differing opinion, I won’t even go into Carlson and Shram, I agree with most comments listed above. KVI has just lost a very long time listener - if they care KTTH here I come.
Bryan thank you to teaching me about Iraq, its citizens, the nuances of war, but most importantly, for a no nonsense, common sense conservative point of view on current events. When other hosts were throwing out war “buzz words” without knowing their meanings, you were right there to explain to your audience what they were talking about!
Please let us know where you go, hopefully it is local.
I will email KVI and KTTH - you educated me advancing my knowledge about the real situation in the middle east - it is the least I can do for you.
I to miss Bryan’s whit. so long to kvi. I hope to here Bryans voice on the radio soon somewhere.
I miss Bryan. I miss Max. KVI comes off like a goofy parody of its former self. I am listening to Hugh Hewitt on KKOL at 3 PM now.
Looking for Bryan’s imminent return to Puget Sound radio.
Bryan was the best thing on the evening talk scene! I will miss him and his show. I will not listen to those other two guys argueing for hours. I sure hope Bryan pops up at another local station. Let’s bombbard KVI with emails!
Brian was the best no-hold-barred commentator on radio. His realistic insights echoed my own. Dr Laura is pabulum and the commentators just plain suck. Drive time will now seem much longer.
Go Brian, thanks for the entertainment and insight from an old ex 3/161st.
I tried to send a complaint yesterday about KVI dumping Bryan Suits. Where is it?
Just wanted KVI to know they are nuts for getting rid of Bryan. Do you have any idea how boring it will be without him? I switched all over the dial today and there are no talk shows that have hosts you can stand for more than a few minutes. Good thing I have lots of books to read!
Suzanne
I echo the sentiment of so many here. KVI is dead to me now. Kirby was OK before the weather girl and the teenager joined in, and Carlson was acceptable before that absolute nutjob Schram appeared (I just can’t listen to his ranting). Frankly in the 12-3 its a no brainer, Miller or Medved are far better than Hannity. And now no Suits, well strike 570 from the dial as far as I’m concerned…
I just emailed the following to KVI. If I get a response I will post that.

I have come to the sad conclusion that Bryan Suits is no longer part of your radio lineup. I had assumed he was missing due to his surgery, but after several weeks of hearing the Commentators in his time slot and finding no more mention of Brian at all on your site, I realize that he is gone.
For a long while I have enjoyed Bryan’s show during my evening commute. I found him to be both entertaining and informative and looked forward to it each afternoon. The Commentators, on the other hand, are neither entertaining nor informative. They are just boring. I can imagine no worse radio than to listen to two morons arguing inane, meaningless and, often, petty points.
If this is the best you can do, you’ll have to call me a former listener. Of course, I can’t stand Ron and Don either, so I guess I’ll have to resort to sports talk.
How sad is that?

Seattle radio is so frustrating! *apologizes for the rant that’s coming*
Bryan, I miss you and your independent thinking. I miss your first hand perspective on Iraq being the proud mom of a Marine air traffic controller that is coming home for evarrr this week.
I can’t stand Carlson and Schram Parade…Carlson’s still a jerk even though his handlers seem have him own downers now. I do like Schram even though he’s a dirty lib.
Im with you, Mahatma I really like Kirby…but I tell you what, when that Karleen chick starts into the high octaves I run to switch the radio. Her self-righteousness is so annoying. I really, really tried…3 days is my record. Good lovin’ gone bad for me and KVI.
Over at KTTH, Glenn Beck is growing on me and I hate to admit, Moron Trivia gives my hypertention a break during all this political CHAOS lately. Although the NAFTA highway talk makes me look for black helicopters.
Michael Medved? The most amazing brain on the radio nation-wide. I really admire how he can pull up the smallest of facts with a quick draw. Ditching Sytman? I’m really upset about that…I liked the bantering with Bose. Bose is good, but they were excellent together. They made me talk to the radio…I know, call me crazy. Where’s the truth on KTTH, it’s rude to let listeners hang like that!!
So then we have Savage vs. Levin…gawd help us all *flirts with the idea of a NPR drive home*
Last but not least, I LOVE this blog. Keep on keepin’ on. *shows you her nifty Starbucks backpack with an intraveneous feed*
Bryan,
Don’t get my hopes up. Are you just testing the waters here in L.A.? I listened to you in Seattle and can’t figure why KVI let you go. Stupid move perhaps? Are you guest hosting at different stations around the west? Hope you land here.
Rergards, John
I wonder if the rants Bryan had regarding the Gaming Industry here in Washington had any play in KVI’s sudden move.
As they say, “Follow the Money”.
re: Where the heck is Bryan Suits?
So I have been checking here from time to time to see if the LT has resurfaced. Anyone hear anything? Man,his show was FUN!
KVI has tanked in my book.
BN.
My husband and I have been strong KVI listeners for a numbers of year. We were surprised and very disappointed when Bryan Suites were removed. Since then the line up on both KVI and KTTH has become flat. I’m tired of Kirby whining and certainly don’t care for the Kirby & Co. format. The Commentators is downright boring. No really stimulating commentary. The radio is no longer a part of my hour each way commute to and from work.
I just found this from an OC newspaper:
Bryan Suits fills the John Ziegler slot, 7-10 p.m., starting Jan. 7 on KFI/640 AM. A decision on a permanent replacement may be announced by mid-month.
KFI streams, so you might check it out. They don’t have him listed on their line up since he’s not a permanent replacement.
I miss his late night show on KIRO.
Bryan Suits ended up at KFI 640 AM here in Los Angles CA. He is working the 7-10 PM PST shift. See http://www.kfi640.com. I notice that he is not moving his wife and child at this time. Smart move. Read the whole story at therealkfi.com if you would like to see what Bryan Suits is walking into. I welcome Bryan Suits to southen California.
I hope Bryan Suits read the information contained in http://www.therealkfi.com before he signed any legal documents. I guess its hard to say no when you are unemployed. Oh well, Welcome to Southern California!!!!!!
Bryan Suits…..is now in Southern CA 7-10pm KFI 640AM radio
tonight is his first evening on air 1/21/08
you can listen via internet.
http://2005.kfi640.com/pages/streaming.html
I wish Bryan well in OC. His program was the only one of the local personalites I looked forward to each day. I hope he will return to the NW some day.
As for KVI, I had been a listner for many years as they had a great lineup of personalities. I gave up on Kirby about year ago a I just grew tired of his whining, and he became very boring. Adding Dr. Laura just showed me that the station has shed its conservative base. The Commentators are almost as boring as Kirby Wilber - almost! The only time KVI has my attention any longer is for Sean’s show and Mark Levin.
My radio, once only set to KVI is now rarely on that station.
I can’t tell you how upset I was to find out the Brian Suits Show was cancelled. And they replaced him with The Commentators. Yeah, just what I want to hear at the end of the day…..arguing about stupid things. Ken Schraam is an idiot, and swears too much. John is just plain boring. The only time I listen to KVI now is on the ride to work listening to Kirby Wilbur. After work, I keep switching channels to find something halfway intellectually challenging.
I don’t believe one word about Brian’s show languishing in the ratings. Why doesn’t KVI offer on the website a poll as to what people want on the drive home: Brian or John and Ken.
Bryan,
My husband and I were shocked when you suddenly weren’t on the air. We just assumed that you were on tour in Iraq again. We are very disappointed in KVI. We want you to know that you are sorely missed. We loved the intelligent and common sense approach you had to the topics you discussed and your sharp wit. Thank you for sharing your talent with us, and thank you so much for serving your country. It has been a privilege tuning in to listen to you and we wish the very best to you and your family. God Bless.
The Management-
I never write these things. I went out of my way to listen to Bryan’s commentary. I would listen over Ron and Don and Hugh Hewitt. He was smart and funny and his guests were original. He probably did not win over your basic Seattle Listener but hat is why I listened to him. Anyways…would love to knwo where he will turn up because I would search him out to lsiten. Kirby Wilbur and John Carlson are boring hacks that need to be let go. Bryan was young, fresh and original.
For those who don’t already know, Bryan Suits is alive and speaking on KFI 640 am radio based in Los Angeles, Cal. It’s a clear channel station (whatever that is supposed to mean) should be accessible to quite a number of those who are interested…also check the internet for that station. Hope this helps.
