Painting the town red with Bryan Suits

Published by Karl at 2:58 am under bryan suits

OK, not really.

The great Bryan, myself and the blogger known as Andrew’s Dad met tonight in a secret undisclosed location, somewhere on the East Side of Seattle, to swill beer, plot the takeover of the world and make fun of Ken Schram.

We opened the meeting of the circle of trust by performing the secret war dance, handshake and then shouting “Holy Shnike” three times while bowing towards Mecca (Indiana, population 355).

OK that may not be how it went down.

Andrew’s Dad and I met Bryan at one of his favorite hangouts in Kirkland, where he and his remarkable wife had gone to enjoy dinner and some trivia.  We wanted to drop in and toast his new opportunity in radio LA, and to thank him for the support he has given local bloggers over the last year or so.

A’s Dad and I arrived early and ate at the bar.  First time I have met him, and it was nice to finally meet another local blogger.  He is a warm sincere guy who takes great delight in taking about the Andrew in his title, his son (obviously).

Finally we located Bryan and joined his party for a quick chat.  Bryan’s wife is a wonderful woman who is his total equal, and far better then he deserves.   She invited us to stay and chat for a bit, which we took her up on.

It was a fun time of trading stories and laughing, even if it held that bittersweet sense of goodbye.

Like it or not though, Bryan was always a big fish in a small pond, and sooner or later his accomplishments would have carried him up and out.  His departure from KVI was a surprise to all of us, but he was (again) very pragmatic when discussing it.  He could have acted pissy and made a scene but chose to move on and find a new home for his ideas.

And a better new home indeed he has found.  In the Spring 2006 quarter Arbitron rating, KFI was the most listened to radio station in Los Angeles, averaging approximately 1.5 million listeners during any given weekday. In the Los Angeles market, this is extremely rare for an AM station, and more rare for an English-language station. The station is now the most listened to AM radio station as well as the most listened to news/talk radio station in the country

KVI pumps out 5000 watts in the Seattle Market, but KFI pumps 50,000 watts, and Bryan is right, you can actually pick it up all the way up here.

The point is that Bryan has now found himself in a huge market area, on the premiere radio station in the country,  all thanks to having his show canceled.

Not bad for a skinny kid from Port Angeles.

I think he will do well.

As they began to set up for the trivia game, we took our leave.  I hope we have the chance to reconvene the Circle of Trust soon before he is gone from the area completely.

Until then, Holy Shnike! Holy Shnike! Holy Shnike!

Oh.  And yes.  We really did make fun of Ken Schram.  Sorry Ken.

As always, I’ll come to LSU for all the latest. While a lot of people in radio are pooh-poohing bloggers, I’m not. For every ….ohhhh….blatherbitch….there’s a couple AndrewsDad or LSUs. Anyhow, I’ll find a way to morph into a broadcast.
Great to see you guys, you were the only ones I’d invite like that. BTW-how about those Germans!? They get all smoochy when they drink!! What a team!
