Pimping Chelsea- Was the apology too soon?

Published by Karl at 11:57 pm under election 2008, hillary

This is one of those stories that a lot of people cover so I ignore this just to avoid jumping on the pig pile.

I admit that I never saw the big deal.  For Pete’s sake people, it’s just an expression, and frankly one that is used a lot.  Yes, i will buy that using it in the news may have been an odd choice, but come on, I have seen so much worse with much less fuss.

And in reality, there is some truth behind the point.  The Clinton’s are using their daughter to do some of the PR work.  She has been seen at polling stations and now brunching with Super Delegates.

So yes, in that sense, they are using her to help Hillary’s campaign the same way Bush was using Petraeus to help sell the surge, something Olbermann also called pimping.

Here are some links:

Hot Air:

I won’t use the word that David Shuster and Keith Olbermann used because it was out of line and because I like my blogging privileges, but, uh, well, uh, just read the story.

Jason Rae is a typical junior in college.

He spends several hours a day in class at Marquette University in Wisconsin where he is majoring in history and political science. He is closely following the Marquette basketball team and has the Golden Eagles’ schedule memorized.

But not many 21-year-olds start their Monday with a personal breakfast with Chelsea Clinton, as Rae did this morning at the student union at the nearby University of Milwaukee.

Rae got the one-on-one treatment from the former — and possibly future — first daughter because he is a Democratic National Committee member from Wisconsin and thus a “super delegate,” one of the 796 free agents who can back any candidate in the race for the Democratic nomination.

I won’t say it.

Big Dog:

There are those who believe that Chelsea Clinton is somehow off limits because she is not running for office. I do not happen to be one of them. I believe that if you put your self in front of a crowd and you talk about your feelings or ideas then you are fair game. She is no different than a celebrity who endorses a candidate and campaigns for that person. The celebrity status, in this case the celebrity of being the former first daughter, is supposed to lend some sort of credibility to a campaign which means that what is said or done is open to scrutiny.

This past weekend Hillary Clinton effectively pimped put her daughter over remarks about her daughter being pimped out. Hillary took the opportunity of David Shuster’s pimped out remark to take attention away from the clean sweep Barack Obama made in the four states that held a primary or caucus. It was a classic Clinton move of media manipulation and it allowed the airwaves to be filled with talk of the remark and Hillary’s “ire” rather than the talk of yet more overwhelmingly convincing wins by the Senator from Illinois.

Chelsea Clinton has been sheltered from the limelight as mommy and Bill worked to keep her from being part of American politics, which can be quite ugly. However, the Clintons want it both ways in that they want Chelsea left alone and they want her out in front giving credibility to her mother’s ambitions. Chelsea, who is not being pimped out, had breakfast with a 21 year old college student, who for some strange reason, is a Super Delegate. Chelsea had breakfast with this guy much as a salesperson does in order to gain confidence and create a sale. Much like the salesperson, Chelsea is being pimped out in order to close the deal. One has to wonder how the mommy can get so angry at a pimped out remark and then have her daughter go out with a young college man in order to buy the vote.

Good point.  You cannot have it both ways.

Hot Air links to Olbermann Watch for a video montage of Olbies apology, and also has posted Shuster’s apology.

Seeing the remarks in their delievered context, I really think this is grossly overplayed.   But, despite the context, and the fact it bears some truth, Hillary is in full war mode.

By that, I mean that the substance of the remarks are true, even if the choice of words left something to be desired.

Sister Toldjah agrees that there was a point to be made:

More: Listen to John Gibson describe the context of Shuster’s remarks. Shuster actually had a point, one which was obliterated when he used terminology that would undeniably offend the Clintons.

Or were the more offended by the point he was trying to make, and using the “pimping” remarks as a smokescreen?

And it is impossible to not notice the hypocrisy, how plenty of smears have been passed on to conservatives with no apologies.

As Michelle Malkin notes:

Newsflash: Cable TV filled with jerks

No, I haven’t blogged yet about MSNBC’s Chelsea/”pimp” brouhaha, which the Clintons are now milking for all it’s worth.

Cable TV is filled with smug, thoughtless  jerks.

I’ve encountered plenty enough of them. They know who they are. You know who they are.

Rude. Sexist. Yammering. Insipid. Vain.

Clowns. Frauds. Hypocrites.

This is news?

No, this is MSNBC once again kissing Hillary’s butt.

Let’s take a moment and be honest.  Politicians in campaigns use any means they can to ake a point, make an impression or sell an emotion.

They will parade wounded soldiers, grieving mothers, sick children, their own wives and children, their churches, their friends and families and any complete stranger they can wrangle into making a point in their favor.

Dress up th children, and parade them around in front of the cameras.  Didn’t Bush and Kerry both use their daughters in in 2004?

In this case, I have no doubt Chelsea loves her mom and wants to help.  I have no doubt she is a willing worker in the campaign.

But when she is having breakfast with the Super Delgates, obviousl in the hopes of garnering support, well, you cannot blame people for commenting on it.

“You cannot have it both ways.”

Ah, but that is the very essence of Clintonista politicking; with the Klintoons, having it both ways (or more than “both”) is SOP. Haven’t you been paing attention for the past 20 years or so (yeh, I watched AR politics before the Klintoons went national in a big way).

I as an American citizen, choose to live life without undergarments. It leaves plenty of room for the boys, and makes the world a better place. In times past, people often went without underwear and they were damn pleased with themselves. I know that some people are made of butter. And I know that some of these butter people are bed dwellers. But if we don’t put an end to the racists of the south, we’ll rot in a river of filth and blood. So the next time you see a man with underwear, you get right in his face and tell him that he’s a Communist!
