Hillary jumps the shark, Obama on Obama’s experience, Obama needs a fact checker and is the Chosen One in danger?
Hillary's campaign has finally admitted by deeds that is recognizes it is losing. Her campaign is slowly getting dirtier and dirtier, and her tactics nastier.
Clinton Campaign Starts 5-Point Attack on Obama
After struggling for months to dent Senator Barack Obama’s candidacy, the campaign of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is now unleashing what one Clinton aide called a “kitchen sink” fusillade against Mr. Obama, pursuing five lines of attack since Saturday in hopes of stopping his political momentum.
The effort underscores not only Mrs. Clinton’s recognition that the next round of primaries — in Ohio and Texas on March 4 — are must-win contests for her. It also reflects her advisers’ belief that they can persuade many undecided voters to embrace her at the last minute by finally drawing sharply worded, attention-grabbing contrasts with Mr. Obama.
After denouncing Mr. Obama over the weekend for an anti-Clinton flier about the Nafta trade treaty, and then sarcastically portraying his message of hope Sunday as naïve, Mrs. Clinton delivered a blistering speech on Monday that compared Mr. Obama’s lack of foreign policy experience to that of the candidate George W. Bush.
Way to go, popping in a bit of Bush Derangement Syndrome.
But her campaign (she denies any personal involvement) has really jumped the shark with this:
Obama campaign manager David Plouffe accused the Clinton campaign Monday of "shameful offensive fear-mongering" by circulating a photo as an attempted smear.
Plouffe was reacting to a banner headline on the Drudge Report saying that aides to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) had e-mailed a photo calling attention to the African roots of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).
"The photo, taken in 2006, shows the Democrat front-runner dressed as a Somali Elder, during his visit to Wajir, a rural area in northeastern Kenya," the Drudge Report said. The photo created huge buzz in political circles and immediately became known as "the 'dressed' photo," reflecting the Drudge terminology.
The photo is hardly damaging considering all the politicians that have gone before him and done similar things. See a montage at Michelle Malkin.
What is surprising is not that he is crying foul on her team releasing this, what is shocking is that she is acting righteous and indignant, claiming the photo is no big deal:
Oh, Hillary. Ohhhhh, Hillary.
If Barack Obama’s campaign wants to suggest that a photo of him wearing traditional Somali clothing is divisive, they should be ashamed. Hillary Clinton has worn the traditional clothing of countries she has visited and had those photos published widely. This is nothing more than an obvious and transparent attempt to distract from the serious issues confronting our country today and to attempt to create the very divisions they claim to decry. We will not be distracted.
See, it’s you who’s prejudiced for finding any untoward intentions in her waving around a photo of Obama wearing a turban. Note well, per Ambinder, the non-denial here that the campaign is circulating the photo. Painfully obvious exit question: If the photo’s so mundane and inconsequential, why are they circulating it in the first place?
I just checked, but I do not actually have a "gee I'm an idiot" hat on, so I have ask Hillary who she is kidding? Her campaign released it and I doubt they did so to enhance his image as being multi cultural and diverse.
Not a shock mind you, she wants to win so much she can taste it. I do revel in the irony of the dirty dealing here. I have spent 8 years listening to liberal friends whine about the nasty dirty republicans.
Time to take a look in the mirror Liberals.
Another bit of irony is that Obama is really running on an empty shirt ticket, he still has nothing more then vague promises of hope to sustain him, yet he is kicking her ass soundly. Only a coup in the super delegates will give her the win.
But then again, do not underestimate the power in the message of hope he proclaims. With all respect to the black community, they really have a right to engage in a certain amount of whining, as they did suffer at the hands of society for many decades.
Now, having said that, I dislike petulant whining in general, and I dislike the implication that he is winning as the black candidate. But let's pretend we are being realistic. There is no way you can ignore the face he is black, and the impact that has on the black community. And Oprah likes him too!
Which makes this quick video deliciously ironic. Here is someone close to his campaign in 2004 explaining why he would not be the candidate in 2008:
Obama 2004: Nah, I can’t run for president in 2008
You can't make this up. And expect this to end up a frequent talking point if he is nominated. Note to politicians: Your own words are your enemies best weapon.
His lack of experience shows in one area: Fact checking, and in this case, his own words are damning him again:
Obama Fact Check: Illinois 'Only State That Still Requires Phys Ed For Schools'
Addressing children's health to a group of doctors and nurses at the Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus on Saturday (2/23/08), Sen. Barack Obama made the following statement:
My home state of Illinois - I think, I'm pretty sure about this - is the only state in the country now that still requires phys ed [physical education] for local school districts. Most of the schools have abandoned it because they're under-funded, they're worried about testing.
Well, he was wrong, but only by 30 or 40 states.
First: According to the National Association for Sport & Physical Education (pdf file), Obama is wrong. The majority of states in the country require physical education at schools. (36 states require it at the elementary level; 33 in junior high; 42 at the high school level.)
In addition (according to NASPE again), Illinois is not even one of the 15 states that require student assessment in physical education.
Second: Obama claims that schools are "under-funded." They may be in the eyes of Obama, but as these Department of Education charts from a few years back show, federal funding for education has increased dramatically under President Bush. (As of 2004, the Department of Education budget had already grown 58% under Bush
Then there is this one that plays into every liberals favorite gripe: Rich people:
Old Media Lets Obama's Shaky CEO Earnings Claim Go Unchallenged+
It's an extraordinarily clever claim. It gets your attention. It's misleading. And of course, Old Media isn't questioning it.
I am referring to the following statement made by Barack Obama in radio ads currently running in Ohio and Texas:
Some CEOs make more in 10 minutes than some American workers make in a year.
In the full context of the ad, I believe that what Obama wants listeners to take away is that "Quite a few CEOs typically, year after year, make more in 10 minutes than some American workers make in a year."
But let's limit things to the literal wording. Start with a full-time minimum-wage worker who earns (rounded) $12,000 annually ($5.85 per hour times 2,080 hours is a bit more than that). How much would a CEO have to make in a year to be earning over $12,000 every 10 minutes?
The answer: At least $187 million -- and, uh, "change"So how many CEOs made that much in 2006? The answer in 2006, according to Forbes, was three:
Steven P Jobs, Apple
Ray R Irani, Occidental Petroleum
Barry Diller, IAC/InterActiveCorp
Yea, that constitutes "some". So he is outraged that 3 people are this outrageously wealthy.
Well, make it four dude. Seems you forgot the Hollywood moguls, and there is one person there that qualifies to sit in your family of outrage:
Obama's single-out of CEOs is also conveniently selective. If you wonder why he did not include certain entertainers in the list of those making more in 10 minutes than some workers, wonder no more:
Oprah Winfrey
Yep, you read it right. His biggest endorser Oprah makes "more in 10 minutes than some American workers make in a year"
Now this final story seems serious at first.
Hushed worry about Obama's safety: Some voters invoke memories of the killings of King, Kennedy in 1968
There is a hushed worry on the minds of many supporters of Senator Barack Obama , echoing in conversations from state to state, rally to rally: Will he be safe?
In Colorado, two sisters say they pray daily for his safety. In New Mexico, a daughter says she persuaded her mother to still vote for Mr. Obama, even though the mother feared that winning would put him in danger. And at a rally here, a woman expressed worries that a message of hope and change, in addition to his race, made him more vulnerable to violence.
“I’ve got the best protection in the world,” Mr. Obama, of Illinois, said in an interview, reprising a line he tells supporters who raise the issue with him. “So stop worrying.”
So, is this a real problem? Perhaps. While there has yet been no credible plots against him reported, I have to admit there are a few crazy people who would kill him if they could.
I do have to note, once again, the irony of he Liberals worry about death threats when so many of them have been threatening and praying for Bush's death for years.
But staying on topic, sure, there could be some fringe maniac who would take the shot.
But his supporters have been playing this game for a while now:
His wife, Michelle Obama, voiced concerns about his safety before he was elected to the Senate. Three years ago, she said she dreaded the day her husband received Secret Service protection, because it would mean serious threats had been made against him.
Perhaps. Sometimes there is truth behind the stories.
But then again the liberals are playing loose with the notion that a black man would obviously face lynching for having the audacity to run for president.
And that is something that is really unfair and caters to the most basic of instincts: Fear.
So despite his constant preaching of his message of hope and change, in the end, it still has some of the same race baiting we are used to seeing from the liberals.
Yup. Sounds like change to me...
