Finally, a positive effect from the economic crisis: Less Global Warming!

Published by Karl at 2:21 am under Uncategorized

The financial crisis, and the failout…I mean bailout finally has a silver lining.

Finally, we have a positive effect1:

Economic woes may give planet a breather

A slowdown in the world economy may give the planet a breather from the excessively high carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions responsible for climate change, a Nobel Prize winning scientist said on Tuesday.

Yep, there ya have it.   If our economy tanks, and we enter a depression, well at least it will mean a reduction in greenhouse gases.

Atmospheric scientist Paul J Crutzen, who has in the past floated the possibility of blitzing the stratosphere with sulfur particles to cool the earth, said clouds gathering over the world economy could ease the earth’s environmental burden.

Ironically, the loss of economic stability might have a bad effect.

Slower economic growth worldwide could help slow growth of carbon dioxide emissions and trigger more careful use of energy resources,

But…

though the global economic turmoil may also divert focus from efforts to counter climate change, said Crutzen, winner of the 1995 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on the depletion of the ozone layer.

Which is because the efforts being made now are costly.  The proposed efforts to combat climate change are not cheap.

“It’s a cruel thing to say … but if we are looking at a slowdown in the economy, there will be less fossil fuels burning, so for the climate it could be an advantage,” Crutzen told Reuters in an interview.

“We could have a much slower increase of CO2 emissions in the atmosphere … people will start saving (on energy use) … but things may get worse if there is less money available for research and that would be serious.”

So let’s assume this guy is not a nutbag, and he is right.  Let’s assume that the economy going to poo causes us to use less CO2, and that leads to a lowering in the CO2 levels.

That would mean that profiteers like Gore would suddenly find their get rich schemes no longer necessary.

Al would find the millions of dollars he is making in the so called carbon credits to slowly diminish.

Al would suddenly be out of a job as the savior of the planet.

I can live with that.  Then Al might have to get a real job….

“So let’s assume this guy is not a nutbag, and he is right.”

Assuming nutbags are not nutbags is THE biggest climate problem around. Corrupting the climate of honest inquiry into questions affecting billions of people–let alone billions of progeny yet to come–as The Church of Anthropogenic Global Warming does is just plain stupid.

We’re already in a cooling cycle due to lower levels of solar flares and slowing of solar wind, so this guy and his reality-based fantasy partners in crime can just claim “it’s the economy, stupid” to explain that away, instead of looking at reality.

    *sigh*

    I hate willfully stupid people.

The proper response to Algore is not simply wishing him fewer millions in profiteering of his lunacy and blowhard pronouncements but actively praying for divine judgement to whop him upside the head with the cold, dead cod of reality, resulting in bankruptcy, disgrace and banishment from the public arena.

    At the very least.

THE POLLS ARE COMING! THE POLLS ARE COMING!!…

Ya just gotta laugh at the pollsters. Actually, I spit on them but, I guess I am rather crass in that regard because I, for one, refuse to worship before their trousers. Those that do, well, they deserve everything that befalls them….
