The race baiting continues, making me wonder if Obama can win without it

Published by Karl at 2:31 am under obama, racism

To be clear, this is not pointed directly at Obama, nor even necessarily his campaign, though one instance does feature Biden.

This is more pointed to his hidden campaign team, the media, who have taken over his campaign’s early race baiting.  He doesn’t have to do it any more, he has many willing accomplices.

First, USA Today has a piece on White Supremists, and inserts a slight twist:

USA Today Story on White Supremacists Subtly Suggests GOP Home to Bigots

In her October 21 article, “White supremacists target middle America,” USA Today’s Marisol Bello took a look at how hate groups are trying to go more “mainstream” by ditching Nazi armbands, brown shirts and white sheets and going for a more “middle class” look. While there is merit in covering such a story, Bello and/or her editors unfortunately chose to color the piece in a way that reflected negatively on the GOP by featuring with the article the photo shown at right with this caption:

Derek Black, left, gets help from his father, Don, on his Internet radio show Sunday in Lake Worth Fla. Don Black is a former Ku Klux Klan leader, and Derek holds a seat on the Palm Beach County, Fla., GOP committee.

The photo and caption appear above the headline on USA Today’s online edition. Yet the Blacks were just two of numerous white supremacists featured in the story and it took Bello until paragraph 26 out of 28 to note that the Palm Beach GOP is “trying to unseat him [Derek Black] after learning of his white supremacist ties.”

Next, check out the latest racist word:

Shame on McCain and Palin for using an old code word for black

The word?  Socialist.  Yes, Socialist is a racist implication.  It has nothing to with the fact that Obama advocates policies and ideas that actually, you know, socialist…

Next, The New York Times plays a little double standard:

NYT: OK for AFL-CIO to Bash McCain, But Anti-Obama Mail Racially Suspect

Cave was grossly offended by another piece of literature that dared question Obama’s record on crime:

The second piece of literature, paid for by the Republican Party of Florida, provides a new line of attack. It alleges that Senator Obama would be soft on crime. Few issues are as racially radioactive, especially here in Miami, so it is worth asking: Does the flier go over the line?

Some of it focuses on Senator Obama’s voting history (oversimplifying a present vote in the Illinois senate to suggest he is “against protecting children from danger,” in one example). But on the front, there is a picture of Senator Obama, looking menacing, with an all-black background. On the other side, above the address it says: “Obama: ‘he acted more as a friend to criminals than to cops…’”

At the end, Cave half-heartedly clarifies that race wasn’t actually mentioned in the flier:

But the winner, the epic winner, is Joe Biden, who implies that undecided independents are…wait for it…racists!  Via Sister Toldjah:

How many times now does this make it that that the OBiden campaign has played the race card?

ABC News’ Matthew Jaffe Reports: As Election Day looms just over two weeks away, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., said Saturday that with Republicans firing “vicious” and “dangerous” attacks at Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., voters are “having a difficult time” opting for the man who would become the nation’s first African American president.

“Undecided people are having a difficult time just culturally making the change, making the move for the first African American president in the history of the United States of America,” the Democratic vice-presidential nominee said at a San Francisco fundraiser Saturday evening. “So we need to respond. We need to respond at the moment, immediately, not wait, not hang around, not assume any of this won’t stick.”

“You see these vicious attacks on Barack’s character,” Biden told supporters. “I mean, this is dangerous stuff these guys are doing. This stuff is on the edge. It’s on the edge. You know, there’s some folks out there in the community nationwide that aren’t as stable as others. It’s a very small minority. But having these rallies where people are showing up saying, you know, the things they’re saying - I don’t even want to repeat them — it’s not a healthy thing.”

What is it about San Francisco that makes the Democratic ticket open their mouths and insert their feet?

Well, Biden can’t seem to go a day without something dreadfully idiotic coming out of his pie hole, yet the media gives it scant coverage, so the scandal is fairly contained.  Once again, the some in the media act as Obama’s unofficial campaign staff.

And Sister Toljah has a nice closing piece that you also won’t hear mentioned often…

Like Hillary did with the “bitter, clinging” comments Obama made in SF, I think it would be wise for Team McCain to respond to this insult to the 10 or so % of undecided voters out there. Also I wonder why Joe Biden didn’t mention the fact that if there are any white voters out there who will be reluctant to vote for a man solely on the basis of his color that it is likely that more of them will be Democrats than Republicans and Independents? I guess that little fact was too inconvenient for him to mention.

I will continue to say it:  While his supporters claim race is working against them, they are certainly happy to use it to advance their cause whenever they can.
