Election aftermath: What it means and where do we go from here

Published by Karl at 10:42 pm under election 2008

First, congratulations to President Elect Barack Obama, who may not have gotten a landslide victory his sycophants wanted, but won decisively none the less.

His election is historic in that we have finally proven image is more important than truth and charisma trumps ability.

Oh and we elected our first minority president.

Yes, I remain convinced that we have been classically hoodwinked.  We allowed the left to convince us that one of the most ineffective and inexperienced legislatures in our country was qualified to lead us.  This was based on every factor imaginable except his race, which was saved to deflect any criticism.

Admit it people:  He was elected in large part for that reason, and just move on.

So there it is.  They won and we have to learn to deal with the consequences.  On the bright side, he cannot be worse than Carter (please, God).

In a more important aspect of this election, the Senate does not look like it will move to a 60+ seat super majority, ensuring that at least in that legislative body the conservatives will still be a force to be reckoned with.

That was incredibly necessary, as the possibilities of a three engined runaway train was more frightening that I can imagine.  Perhaps Lieberman will come out of his shell and quit his association with the liberals who turned on him.

In looking at this night it is clear that the country has sent a message to the republican party.  They have been slapped twice in two years worth of elections, and if they are wise they will learn from it.

They lost the support of the people with their drunken sailor spending and loss of focus on conservative values.  Pork spending, corruption and general misbehavior has had its toll.

Yes I will readily proclaim that the Republican losses may have been fueled and aided by in the tank media coverage, but the simple fact is that they took their majority and were foolish with it and it cost them.  Wake up people, you screwed up and you lost.  Time to regroup.

Now more than ever the Republicans need to look in their hearts and find their moral compass.  Join McCain in speaking and legislating against the pork spending and earmarks.  Clean up your houses and lose the kickbacks and donations from questionable sources.

The real power of conservatives should be their ethical natures, and indeed in no other area do their enemies try and find their weaknesses.

Sarah Palin will end up this night being the new totem of the Republicans, if they are smart.  She was young, witty, ethical and mostly, real.  The Republicans need to embrace the real qualities she has and use them to their advantage.  Likely she will be groomed for future office and she should, but do so with care and thought to not destroy the very qualities that make her so desirable.

And find more like her.

In two years we do this again, and you need to work NOW to be in position to regain some losses.

In the mean time, we will have to wait and see what the Obama administration has in mind for us.

Perhaps my skepticism is misplaced, and he will do an adequate or even great job as our president.

Perhaps.

But where Clinton had a free reign with the press for the most part, and a real lack of visible scrutiny, Obama has a very riled up and visible blogosphere that will hound him without mercy.

And I will be there too.  Watching and writing.

In a sense I am glad, as I view the next four years with a certain zest, a challange to be met head on.  They pulled one over on America.  We have four years to show them the folly of their decision.

I admit it, I am feeling very disgusted with America and I am not shy to admit that I feel that way.  We gave our greatest liberty, our vote, to a guy who will say or do anything to achieve his purposes, and who’s campaign was built on empty rhetoric, all in the name of diversity and charisma.

So, to close this blog with a sense of class, which I readily admit I cannot personally muster right now, here is John McCain’s very classy concession speech.

Here’s the transcript, if you prefer.

I’m not so sure we were hoodwinked. I think that a lot of people know exactly who President-Elect Obama is. He did a good job of keeping his Marxism out of the news until near the end, but a lot of people voted for it anyway… and they voted for his socialist policies.

Obama talked about a “collective” salvation. He talked about redistribution of wealth. He talked about appointing judges that could empathize with the little guy… as opposed to staying within the constraints of the Constitution. He talked about people wanting to keep what they earn as making a “virtue out of selfishness”, while appealing to the selfishness of those that, should he ever manage to fulfill his promises will end up not paying anything in taxes.

He talked about a 100% cap on emissions, with the goal of bankrupting the coal fired plants. He said that it would “necessarily” cause electricity costs to skyrocket. He talked about ending our dependence, not just on foreign oil, but all oil in ten years. He happily declared this summer that $4.00 per gallon gasoline was a good thing — but that he wished it hadn’t come so fast.

He said he would cut the military budget by 25%. He said he would create a civilian “civil defense” corp with a budget and strength equal to the military.

All of this was available to anyone that wanted to hear — and many people I presented these facts to thought all of them to be good things. They voted for him anyway — because he is black in some cases, but more because he’s not George Bush and he’s not a Republican.

They voted for all of these things that Barack Obama said he wanted.

Personally, I don’t think that there’s too much chance of it all going as badly for America as Barack would hope (that is, I don’t think he’s got much of a chance of getting his entire agenda implemented). But we’re definitely going to see higher taxes in two years as the “Bush” tax cuts expire. We may see temporary tax relief for some (in the form of refundable credits, and not cuts) before then, but I know that MY tax bill is going up, and I won’t be seeing much, if any of the relief he promised.

Conservatives have GOT to start teaching the principles that made our country great again. We’ve got to start teaching about individual rights, individual repsonsibility, and yes… individual salvation. And we’ve got to find and hold to our moral center. We must hang together, but we must do so as individuals dedicated to the principles that made our country great — we must defeat the principles that have eroded that greatness since Woodrow Wilson repudiated the principles of the Declaration of Independence in favor of his “liberal” ideas.

We’ve got to start soon, and we’ve got to make certain that people have the scales taken off of their eyes so that they see the consequences of the policies they voted for tonight.

You hear any conservative principles being espoused during this campaign? Neither did I. Everyone is so afraid to show their lack of understanding as to what they are, let alone express them. The only light that was on our side was Sarah. I hope she stays around. Great job.

The GOP have steadily tacked left, abandoning the Principles and Values of Conservatism that they campaigned on before. In essence, Conservatism did not lose, the GOP did.

Now is the time to take a firm hand with the GOP, get rid of the RINOs, get rid of those who want big government and big government spending within the GOP, and get some real leadership within the GOP.

I have read scattering reports of Conservatives meeting to discuss the future, and it seems Palin has been the center of those talks. I do not think we have heard the last of her.

I give the left congratulations. Yes, they did win.

Unfortunately, the GOP nominated a person who split the party, damaged goods from the start I would say. Foolish.

Where we go from here is anyones guess. I am hoping for Conservatives to take a firm hand on the GOP and begin to rebuild the party into what it should be and not back to what it has become.

Because if they do not, the Democrats will have to screw up incredibly bad for more GOP to be elected from now on.

Unfortunately, I still wonder if the GOP has gotten the message yet.
