What will the end bring? Elation and indigestion, in equal parts

Published by Karl at 12:54 am under election 2008

Greetings readers,

I took a week off for health and sanity.  Health related to my previous posts and a few side issues, and sanity simply because the frenzy of stupidity in the last two weeks of the campaign made me nutso.

But here we are, and tomorrow is election day.

We have run this immensely long electoral season to a close and tomorrow we find out the answers to the question of who will lead us for the next four years.

We also answer a few other questions.  We will discover if:

Style beats substance.

Facts beat innuendo.

Whether character and judgment are necessary.

And, is charisma more important that experience.

I am not being at all sarcastic.  Those seem to be the only real questions that matter.

Promises have been made.  Some believe them, as this video shows:

Many do not, being more cynical.

Speaking frankly, if Obama is elected, I fully expect to be very busy next year blogging about his exploits, and the gradual conversion to socialism.  If he is not, I expect riots and more complaints akin to the 2000 election, both of which I will also be happy to debate.

Locally, we have many important issues as well, not to mention the rematch in the Governor’s race.

I will likely not live blog it, preferring to wait things out and post my reaction to the end results.

One thing though, regardless of who wins or loses, history will be made.  We will either elect a black president, or a woman vice president.  Both of which are important steps to our country’s growth and evolution.

Despite my disgust at the system and all the debacles, I remain proud of our country and its determination towards democracy.

My advice to all:  Vote, and be proud of being part of the process.  Win or lose, we are still the best country in the world.

Until of course the complaints start rolling in.  At that point, our a stiff drink, roll your eyes and wait for the fighting to start.

Thanks for that video: “I don’t have to worry about my mortgage; I don’t have to worry about putting gas in my car; Obama will send me money; he will get it from those rich people; Oh: he’ll also find a cure for cancer, bring peace to the world, save the whales, get rid of this itch on my back, make my skin more youthful; he is high in anti-oxidants; he is bio-degradable; he has no carbon footprint; he has a fresh lemon scent; he will personally fly Air Force One to the South Pole and sew up the hole in the ozone layer. The lion will lie down with the lamb. And we won’t have to wait until inauguration day.”

How can you NOT live blog the governor’s race. Simply blogging at all about it during the next three months will probably be the equivalent of live blogging if the 2004 election is any indicator.
