Barack Obama bought a ring, e i e i o….

Published by Karl at 12:20 am under hypocrites, obama

So one of the big headlines on Drudge and in various email alerts was this story about Obama buying Michelle a 30k Diamond encrusted Rhodium ring to say thanks.

Michelle Obama is to receive this £20,000 thank you from her husband for her support during the election.

The Harmony ring is made of rhodium - the world’s most expensive metal –and encrusted with diamonds. It is being hastily made by Italian designer Giovanni Bosco in time for January’s inauguration ceremony.

Only about 25 tons of rhodium are mined each year, mostly in South Africa, and as a result its price is typically around £5,000 an ounce.

So there are voices being raised with some understandable outrage.

Good News! Michelle Obama to Get $30,000 Diamond Thank You Ring

I’m sure all the Sarah Palin wardrobe critics will come out about this one too! Right?

How generous of Obama! I’m sure this is his first step to stimulate the ailing economy and show he is a man of the people. Way to flash the cash while the rest of us are tightening our belts. True leadership! The ring costs what a lot of Americans make in a year!

His point is well taken.  this indeed does show the hypocrisy of the democrats regarding frivolous spending, and it surely does reemphasize the elitist arguments about Obama.

But at the same time, I have trouble finding outrage.

All of our Presidents, Vice Presidents, most members of Congress and most State Governors live in opulent luxury that is more akin to the lifestyles of the rich and famous Hollywood stars we see on TV.  The average person has no concept of how richly these people live while all around them some of their constituents live in squaller.

Being raised middle class, this is repugnant to me, but no more so than Ron Reagan’s thousand dollar cowboy boots and other luxuries.

So this does not repulse me more so than any other luxury associated to the political elite.

Yes, it contradicts the image of the Wal Mart shopping regular folk BS that the Obama’s tried to foist off, but that was a joke from the word go.

All this really does do is shatter the image of him being a new breed of politician.  It reinforces the fact that he is just like all the other political elite in Washington DC.

So for all the talk of hope and change, this is just another example of how he is no better than than the rest, and that we elected a fraud.

Same ole same ole…

I have no criticism of a man buying his wife a nice “purty thang”. I’d buy my Wonder Woman some such could I afford it. But then I don’t have a brother living on $1.00/month in a “cardboard box” in Kenya and an (illegal alien) aunt living on public assistance in the USA, either. Second thought, maybe I d have one small cavill: if the guy can buy an expensive gewgaw for his wife, why can’t he spring for a couple of grand to get his brother out of a slum and less than that to send his auntie home?

I do wish, however, that Sarah Palin had kept the clothes the RNC bought for her use. Coulda used them for a run in 2012.

So much for all those magazine covers attempting to portray “Big Brother” as a “regular ” family man with an “average” family.

    I am not an “enviornentalist” nor do I lean to the Left by any means, but for those Leftists, Liberals and enviornmental crazies that are so concerned abouth “human rights” and their precious “Gaia”;

I am curious about where the rhodium is mined. It could be nothing, but what are the living and work conditions of the rhodium miners in South Africa? Also, what is the mining doing to the South African enviornment?

They are the ones, after all, who have hailed the coming of their “messiah” Obama, are they not? Oh well as far as the “pleabian masses”-”Let them eat cake!”
