The best damn movie you will likely never see: Taking Chance
I saw this up at Sister Toldjah, and I have checked out the various reviews. I have to concur, it appears to be a powerful story that does huge credit to the honesty and dedication of the US military. As she said:
Kevin at Pundit Review has news about an upcoming HBO movie that will make you break out the Kleenex box as well as fill your heart with even more pride for our brave, honorable men and women in uniform.
Here is the trailer:
More about the movie can be read at Blackfive, including the entire original true story, which I would love to repost, but not until I have permission.
The back story is that back in September 2006, Blackfive published a book called Blog of War: Frontline dispatches from Iraq and Afghanistan. One of the many amazing stories in the book was called Taking Chance Home,
Marine Lieutenant Colonel Strobl’s account of escorting the remains of Lance Corporal Chance Phelps. It’s a long and beautifully written and it deserves to be read in it’s entirety. It’s about Valor, Honor and Respect.
This is a movie about that account that was made by HBO.
As it is an HBO movie, likely it will not get the attention it deserves, but hopefully it will gain enough following to warrant wider distribution, or at least a quick trip to DVD if not.
I may order HBO just to see it. I urge you to do so too.
It’s about time someone finally made a movie that captures the real valor and integrity that is the core of Military service.

A Blast From The Past: “Four Interesting Books Of A Regional Nature” (March 12, 2007)…
Back in the spring of 2007, I wrote about some excellent books I purchased while on a trip to Apalachicola, Florida. Yesterday, one of the authors, Richard Edward Noble left a nice comment on the original entry. Since I’ve been going through old blog…
