Are you and I radicals? Apparently…

SHE IS WATCHING YOU…

This was the headline form the Drudge Report today.

The story concerns another report from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that warnings about right wing extremists.

Now…no one who remembers Timothy McVeigh cannot help but agree that any kind of extremists are dangerous and bad.  But the definitions proposed and the warning signs presented by DHS are scary in that they take pretty much include any reasonable position of disagreement with the present administration.  They start by blaming the recession:

Recession fueling right-wing extremism, U.S. says

Right-wing extremists in the United States are gaining new recruits by exploiting fears about the economy and the election of the first black U.S. president, the Department of Homeland Security warned in a report to law enforcement officials.

The April 7 report, which Reuters and other news media obtained on Tuesday, said such fears were driving a resurgence in “recruitment and radicalization activity” by white supremacist groups, antigovernment extremists and militia movements. It did not identify any by name.

DHS had no specific information about pending violence and said threats had so far been “largely rhetorical.”

But it warned that home foreclosures, unemployment and other consequences of the economic recession “could create a fertile recruiting environment for right-wing extremists.”

Sure, just as global warming and war created a left wing extremist fertile environment.

Isn’t it interesting that the left wing makes this a threat whereas the right wing just considered them cranks…

The report isolates these dangerous people:

The report warned that military veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with combat skills could be recruitment targets, especially those having trouble finding jobs or fitting back into civilian society.

And it warns of these dangerous beliefs:

  • Concern about illegal immigration
  • Concern about increasing Federal Power
  •  Restrictions on firearms
  • Concern about Abortion
  • Loss of US sovereignty
  • Support for 3rd party candidates (interesting that Ron Paul is considered a 3rd party…)

This is the second such report in recent months, the first a few months ago in Missouri, which was so ridiculous that they scrapped it a few weeks later:

On February 20, 2009, the State of Missouri, via its Department of Public Safety, issued what was called “MIAC Strategic Report: The Modern Militia Movement.” In this report, people who supported Presidential candidates Ron Paul, Bob Barr, and yours truly were referenced as being connected to potentially dangerous “militia members.” But the inference did not stop there. People of conservative ideology were also identified in the State Police report as being potentially dangerous. People who held political opinions opposing abortion, illegal immigration, the New World Order, the North American Union, the Income Tax, the U.N., etc., were profiled in the MIAC report.

Interestingly enough, no left-leaning political ideologies were identified. No Islamic extremists. No environmental extremists. Only people holding “conservative” or “right-wing” philosophies were identified in the MIAC report.

This is a gross attempt to suppress political dissent and stifle political debate.

If you are not afraid, you should be.

And considering this, I am sure that DHS is hot on the trail of Texas Governor Perry:

Gov. Perry Backs Resolution Affirming Texas’ Sovereignty Under 10th Amendment

Gov. Rick Perry today joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”

Yea, just like those radicals to hide behind the Constitution…

Dang, wish I lived in Texas…

Yep me too one of the symbols in the MIAC report was a Revolutioary war Battle ensign now in use by the Navy as a jack. The don’t tread on me flag. Supposedly flying that one is evidence you are associated with the radical right wing. I thought Clinton was trying to marginalize me….Barack is way out of line.

Oh sorry he didn’t see the release or know of its existence before it was published.
