Tea Party Bonus: My newest fan, Amanda Marcotte of Pandagon

Published by Karl at 11:26 pm under Idiots, Liberals, Tea Parties

Yes its true, my admittedly lackluster post yesterday about the Tea Parties brought me a new fan.  Amanda Marcotte of Pandagon decided my lowly post was more worthy than any of the dozens or hundreds out there.

Let’s be honest, my blog is at best a D List wanna be.  I don’t have a huge hoard of loyal readers, just a few who get something from my writing.

I’m OK with that, though I admit that someday when the day job is less of a priority, I hope to make a much larger impact.

So it is always gratifying when one of the more popular blogs sits up and takes notice.  I recall a few occasions when Kos and other lefties have taken umbrage at something I said.

But generally, I expect that when I am being snarky and in depth on a hot issue.  I did not expect that on the Tea Parties.  In my blog yesterday I deliberately took a position that avoided the issues and just celebrated the Tea Parties for what they were:  wonderful exercises in free speech, assembly and petitioning the Government.  I noted that even the liberal mockery was something to celebrate as it was proof that they had an impact.

The links were unedited, and untouched.  Any teasers were from the original source.  My comments were these:

My only comment is that the tea parties made a huge impact, not just on the people bragging about them, but also on the liberals belittling them.

In other words…they worked. I have rarely seen this many links on a single topic…

Oh yes, I was a hotbed of controversy.  Look at all the foul names I used and accusations I made.

She responded with:

There was a lot of discussion and debate on the blogs about what exactly the teabaggers were hoping to accomplish with their protests.  Then I discover this wingnut blogger linking back to us and he wrote:

My only comment is that the tea parties made a huge impact, not just on the people bragging about them, but also on the liberals belittling them.

In other words…they worked. I have rarely seen this many links on a single topic…

Of course!  It pissed off the liberals!  The only political goal worth having.  Liberals, with their literacy and their lattes are so damn infuriating.  Anything to piss them off is worth your time.

A)  I like lattes, liberals do not get an exclusive on good coffee.

B)  I never said that pissing off liberals was a goal Ducky1 , I said it was a result.  The goal was a futile one, that of expecting our elected officials to change their policies based on the will of the people.  I never expected it to work.

Pissing off liberals is nowhere on my agenda, nor anyone I personally know.

I was being fair to the coverage and posting all the stories I found, nothing more.

Frankly, you think far too highly of yourself if you think anyone would do this just to irritate you.  Talk about hubris.

Hopefully this will just devolve into increasingly nonsensical events that manage to get wingnuts the attention they want as liberal bloggers debate what’s wrong with them.  Better than actually trying to influence policy.

Just as your posts mocking the conservatives, Ducky, are much easier for you than actually exercising your claimed literacy, and trying to debate policy.

And note the most important and revealing element of her post:  She apparently feels that petitioning the government over grievances on its policy, free speech and freedom to assemble are “nonsensical”.

I wonder if she feels that way when the protest is in support of her pet issues?  Obviously not.  No, my guess is that it is only nonsensical when conservatives exercise their rights.

What people like Amanda, I guess, do not understand is that sometimes the measure of success in what you do is as much the doing it as it is the reactions to you doing it.

So when the liberals like her mock it and deride it and befoul it with juvenile frat jokes like Tea Bagging, I know it is getting to them.  When the liberal media tries to diminish it and marginalize it, I know it must be because they are scared of it.

So let CNN do a clearly biased hatchet job, and let her misrepresent my words and her readers mock me.  Bring it on.

Let Pelosi openly mock the freedoms she is sworn to protect.  I love it.

The fact is that the Tea Parties represent everything that is powerful about our constitution.  The estimated 850 thousand people who participated in it are trying to send a message using the simple method of peaceful assembly and protest.  As Napolitano generates her warnings about right wing extremists, the real revolution as is happening right under her nose with calm measured and deliberate protests.  It is a revolution of ideas.

The more they mock it, the more it will swell, and soon they will find their support eroded by their disrespect and callous indifference.

They are helping the conservatives find their heart and their voice.  I should be thankful.

On a side note, I keep wondering what the liberals are upset about?  What is wrong with protesting excessive spending?  Seems to me enough of them were complaining about that all through the Bush years.

What is so wrong with complaining about expansion of Federal power, when likewise they made the exact same claim against Bush?

And what is wrong with likening Obama to a socialist when they spent the last 8 years calling Bush a fascist.

The fact is that despite Obama’s lip service to bipartisanship, the liberals want anything but bipartisanship.  They want koolaid drinking compliance with their party line, and bloggers like Amanda are clearly willing to sign on to that premise.

They don’t want discussion, or debate.  They want power and control.  They want an end to any form of opposition.

Otherwise they would not be mocking the opposition, they would be debating it.

Where was the debate about the purpose of the Tea Parties?   Where was debate about the merits of the issues?  Instead we had race baiting, ad hominem attacks and patronizing mockery.

Liberals hate to debate unless they hold all the cards.  Any other time, they hide behind childishness.

Amanda, by the way, was a familiar name, as she was the blogger hired to be John Edwards official blog-mistress, only to have to resign over her idiotic and insensitive posts on religion and sexism.

So I shouldn’t be surprised that she was unwilling to debate anything, she just wanted to pretend it didn’t matter and pretend anyone who thought it was, was deluded.  Name calling is so much easier than actually debating ideas.

As you wish Ducky.

Interesting, that you’ve left out all the responses on Pandagon.net that rightly claimed that the tea bag parties were ridiculous. It’s also interesting that your other blog entries clearly show that you’re neither independent nor a moderate, but just another Republican apologist.

    Troll.

    Ellid,

First of all, I cannot answer every comment individually or collectively in Amanda’s comment box. I Don’t have the time, and frankly don’t see the need.

As to the premise that the tea parties were ridiculous, you are certainly entitled to that opinion, but the fact is that they were something anyone who loves free speech should be applauding.

That was really my only point.

I have seen the comments in her blog really make some giant leaps in reason. It is amazing. So I will address the wildest elements on that shortly.

As to you final attempt to put me in my place, sorry. I don’t belong to the republican party, I don’t caucus with them, and I won’t ascribe to any party ideology.

I am a fiscal conservative and social moderate, and have never claimed to be otherwise.
