Liberals make my teeth hurt
I admit it. I am up to here sick of liberals.
OK, not all. Just the idiots who insist on being idiots.
After the Tea Parties I was panned on a liberal blog because I suggested that the protests were effective in making people discuss the issue.
I was wrong. Conservatives were discussing and debating the issue while most liberals were trying to defer, distract, defend and deflect it.
I am used to that, so no big deal. But one of the commenters at that liberal blog decided that the real issue was once again the liberals number one excuse regarding anything you might dislike about Obama or his policies: Racism.
Janeane Garofalo went on Olbermann’s show and opened her pie hole with the same theory.
The tea parties were not about taxes, or spending. They were not about the constitution and abuse of power.
The existed only because conservatives hate blacks, particularly the one elected president, solely for being black.
It has become the liberal mantra. No matter what argument the conservatives make, its all about racism. Never before in the history of politics has race bating become such a finely tuned art.
Oh the commenter was gracious enough to point out that some liberals were racist, those who like conservatives will not toe the party line, and by that admission they hope to be shielded by the sad inconvenient little problem with the theory, that being that there is no basis for it.
It could be the biggest case of projection I have ever seen. Liberals are so internally conflicted about their own racism that they project that onto conservatives to achieve enlightenment and moral superiority.
Or it could be that liberals are cowards who know their progressive agenda masks socialism. They could just be seeing this as a convenient way to silence the opposition for continued power.
I do know that some of them just want to make a buck.
Who knows what motivates this insanity.
All I know is that I think it is high time we expose it and attack it once and for all.
And I am not alone: (emphasis mine)
Here’s my point: I sense a little misplaced anger over her comments about the tea parties. It strikes me as a Captain Renault-like expression of shock. In order to take great offense at what she said we have to ignore the fact that the very same thing is said, in more subtle ways, every day. The left never stops accusing the right of racism.
Also, she is not a politician–she is asked to give her opinion on TV because she is blunt and opinionated. Speaking tactfully is not something we should expect of demand from entertainers–in fact, we should encourage just the opposite. I for one can appreciate a good right-wing nut job comedian, who crosses boundaries and says things that other people are thinking, but does it in a way that would be unacceptable for a politician. That is why it is shocking, and that is why it is fun. Maybe not funny, but fun–to the right wingers in the back of the room who are glad that somebody is saying the things that they wish they could say.
Her message was not to people on the right–it was to her fellow lefties. She was saying “Stop beating around the bush here–let’s call this what it is.” So that is what she thinks. Glad to hear it. I am always glad to hear an unfiltered position.
Here’s the thing; everything Janeane said is what people on the left already think. They have been saying it right to your face, in creative ways, for years. Remember when the candidate Obama repeatedly spoke about his being a long shot for the election because “he has a funny name” or because he “doesn’t look like those other presidents on our money,” what do you think he was saying? He was saying that a large portion of our country is racist. He was talking about you. He was trying to shut his critics up even before they started. And it worked. Almost no one called him on it.
So don’t get upset when someone says it out loud. You should be glad someone finally said it-now you can answer the charge. You don’t want to have to answer the charge? Why not? It’s out there.
Conservatives will even buy into this. They will say, “Well, I know that there is still a lot of racism out there, but…”
That’s the problem. People are unwilling to declare that it’s over. It’s done. The number of Americans who believe one race is inferior to another is so small that they are not worth discussing. They are silly people. And they have no power.
I like Morgan Freeman’s position. On “60 Minutes” a few years ago, he declared Black History Month “ridiculous,” prompting this question:
Mike Wallace: But how are we going to get rid of racism?
Morgan Freeman: Stop talking about it.
I like that. Let’s just stop talking about it. But in order to stop talking about it we are going to have to talk about it for a little while. To declare that it is over. It has gone away.
Oh, I know what my friends on Big Hollywood will say. “Racism is alive and well–on the left!” Yes, but even that is fake racism. There is an obsession with race, certainly, but only so it can be used as a weapon to intimidate. It’s a way to stop debate even before it begins. (If you watched, they tried it with Andrew Breitbart on HBO’s Real Time. He wouldn’t let it go. He essentially said “Let’s do this–let’s put it out on the table.” Things got electric, for a couple of minutes. Then Bill Maher changed the subject.)
A lot of people agree with Janeane Garofalo. Even people who are right of center- which is why so many mainstream Republicans politicians want nothing to do with those tea party folks–they’d rather keep them at arms length. We should keep our ears open when provocateurs are being provocative. Don’t write them off as haters–they are starting a valuable discussion.
Let’s get it out in the open. Everyone who thinks being against taxes is racist, raise your hands. We won’t shout you down. We would love to have that argument in public once and for all. Right?
Beautifully said. Sure there are racists, but they are by far the minority. It is so hard to find overt racism that the left has devolved into fantasy racism.
If you don’t act like a racist, you still are internally and unconsciously.
That’s a great line because they can accuse you, and then forgive you all at the same time. It’s not your fault, you cannot help it. And of course arguing is just subconscious denial.
Brilliant.
It’s institutional despite endless laws forbidding it. It’s social despite the utter despite for it socially.
Etc Ad Naseum.
I am on board with this confrontation. You want to accuse me? Do it. But you better bring more than some psycho babble and vague accusations about my subconscious desire for white privilege.
I cry a clear and unabashed bullshit.
Meanwhile, we will be here waiting - no demanding - that you actually muster up a rational argument and debate the issues instead of hiding in the skirts of your fairy godmother Racism.
Come on Liberals…come out to play. Sooner or later you will have to actually deal with the issues.
Unless of course you are afraid…

“That’s a great line because they can accuse you, and then forgive you all at the same time.”
They never forgive. They just go all superior.
Yes, that superior condescending attitude is their method of forgiveness.
Excellent read and analysis.
But let’s face it, the woman is still out there somewhere.
I will state for myself that it in not the colour of his skin. My liberal mom made sure of that. Although the liberal, school teacher parents were closet racists. Grandma used to use the term “bad Blood” in them. Pretty open ended, isn’t it?
I served with all groups(for brevity only) in twenty years and it was a situation where any pretense of being racist had to go. Nothing gets done.
But in annual performance evaluations was a line similar to this: supports all affirmative action and equal opportunity programs. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm?
So for objectivity, barack obama is not up to the task as it exists present day. He is incapable of doing anything that would seem to be decisive and for the benefit of all citizens. Being in the pocket of the NEA, UAW, code pink, Acorn etc. has tended to let what needs to be done fall by the wayside.
It his content of character or lack thereof that I cannot support him, his cabinet or the congress as it stands.
And apologies to all for Kathleen Sibelius. I live in Kansas. Can’t stand her. She is a countersunk version of jimmy carter.
