Jonah Goldberg: Democrats wallow in a ‘culture of corruption’

Published by Karl at 10:55 pm under Democrats, hypocrites, obama

Saw this at Sister Toldjah.  It really doesn’t say much that has not been said before, but it is a good summary.

Democrats wallow in a ‘culture of corruption’

….

But you know what? We ain’t seen nothing yet. For starters, the real corruption isn’t what the media are ignoring or downplaying as isolated incidents. It’s what the media are hailing as bold, inspirational leadership. The White House, as a matter of policy, is rewriting legal contracts, picking winners (mostly labor unions and mortgage defaulters) and singling out losers (evil “speculators”) while much of the media continue to ponder whether Obama is better than FDR.

If a Republican administration, staffed with cronies from Goldman Sachs and Citibank, was cutting special deals for its political allies, I suspect we’d be hearing fewer FDR analogies and more nouns ending with the suffix “gate.”

Just food for thought.

Newsbusters had more to say last December.

Essay: What About the Democrats’ ‘Culture of Corruption?’

It was of course a HUGE deal when the media could peddle a Republican Culture of Corruption.  Now that Democrats nationwide are steeped in sleaze, perhaps including the incoming President, the press has collectively lost interest in connecting the corruption dots, and deemed doing so to be in poor taste.

 Here is another flashback:

The Democratic Culture of Corruption

The Democrats have met the culture of corruption, and it looks like it ain’t just elephants among the jackasses soiling public office.

And this old gem:

The Democrats’ Culture of Corruption

Did you notice the stories about Illinois Democratic Rep. Jan Schakowsky’s husband being sentenced to prison for a check-kiting scheme involving millions of dollars? Probably not. It got little attention. Yet Robert B. Creamer was a prominent Democratic political consultant who recently surfaced as a registered lobbyist who tried to sabotage John Bolton’s nomination as Ambassador to the U.N.

Here’s another newsworthy twist: Creamer, sentenced to five months in prison by the judge, was prosecuted by Patrick Fitzgerald, the same prosecutor in the Valerie Plame affair. Joe Ferguson, assistant U.S. Attorney in Fitzgerald’s office, called the sentence too lenient.

Consider William (cold cash) Jefferson, former Rep from Louisiana.  He was investigated for years before finally being charged with bribery.  Did the House censure him?  No.  After months of ignoring it, they finally took action:  They stripped him of a committee membership.

Wow.  Tough actions.

After indictment in 2007, the voters had  had enough and elected someone else in 2008.  Three years after his investigation.

It seems to me that when Republicans screw up, their ranks close and they are asked to leave.  When Democrats screw up it seems to be a different standard.

I think the real disappointment of the Democrats is that they couldn’t find a reason to send Jefferson to rehab, that being their preferred method of fixing the problems.

Don’t get me wrong.  Republicans have absolutely no moral authority here.  They have more than enough rogues in their ranks.

But the outrage perpetuated by the Democrats is hypocritical when they have never really dealt with the corruption in their own house.

Again, look at all the ridiculous ethical violations in the Obama Cabinet picks:

  • U.S. trade representative nominee, Former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk — $10,000 in unpaid taxes
  • White House Office on Urban Policy nominee, Adolfo Carrión – Received questionable “pay for play” contributions
  • Health and Human Services nominee, Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle — $128,000 in unpaid taxes
  • Chief Performance Officer nominee, Nancy Killefer — $946.69 tax lien on her home for failure to pay unemployment compensation tax on household help
  • Commerce Secretary nominee, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson — Under grand jury investigation for “pay for play” corruption
  • White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel — legally questionable behavior shielding personal income in a “charitable foundation” and possibly $100,000 in unpaid property taxes
  • Secretary of Labor, Hilda Solis — House ethics violations/lobbying conflict of interest
  • Secretary of the Treasury, Timothy Geithner — $34,000 in unpaid back taxes and interest

Not mention a few former lobbyists, despite promises to the contrary, and closer to home, Gary Locke who has some questionable ties to China.

When you add in Rangel,  you start to wonder if any elected Democrats pay their taxes.

And don’t get me started on all the Democrats with huge monetary ties to the banks and financial industries getting bailed out.  (Cough - Chris Dodd Barney Frank - cough)

Not to mention Obama/Rezko.

And it irritates me that the media for the most part is so forgiving when the offender is a Democrat, to the point of  very often conveniently forgetting to mention their party affiliations, a courtesy NOT extended to Republicans, of course.

But again, nothing new here.  SSDD.

The Democrats are masters of the pot calling the kettle black.
