The Audacity of Free Speech - or, How to be a Crypto-Nazi Political Terrorist, Without Even Trying
The title seems glib but sadly it is true. According to some of the Democrats, having the audacity, the sheer gall to protest about Health Care means you are a political terrorist and are working out of the Nazi playbook:
Taking a page right out of Nancy Pelosi’s playbook of stating that town hall meeting protestors are sporting swastikas thus implying that they are Nazis, low rated radio host Bill Press is now accusing them of using Nazi tactics in a sanity-challenged column. This follows on the heels of Press’ attack on the protestors on Fox News as reported earlier this week by Seton Motley here in NewsBusters. Here is Press going completely over the edge on the subject of the protestors in his column:
…Taking a page right out of a Nazi playbook, organizers bus in professional protestors and arm them with instructions on how to take over meetings, shut down discussion, shout over any pro-health care reform speakers, and then post video of the resulting chaos on YouTube. It’s mob rule, pure and simple.
For such audacity, for standing up and demanding to be heard, such brutal and cheeky actions like this or this, you get accused of being a paid for industry plant, a Nazi, an angry mob, a phony grassroots citizen protester and you can even get assaulted by some SEIU thugs, like the gentleman in this video clip:
Kenneth Gladney, a 38-year-old conservative activist from St. Louis, said he was attacked by some of those arrested as he handed out yellow flags with “Don’t tread on me” printed on them. He spoke to the Post-Dispatch from the emergency room of the St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, where he said he was waiting to be treated for injuries to his knee, back, elbow, shoulder and face that he suffered in the attack. Gladney, who is black, said one of his attackers, also a black man, used a racial slur against him before the attack started.
“It just seems there’s no freedom of speech without being attacked,” he said.
Maybe you can be lucky enough to get your congressman to scream and shout at you (yes, he really was a constituent):
Video: Democrat screams at constituent for asking tough question on health careposted at 8:45 pm on August 7, 2009 by Allahpundit
And by “constituent,” I of course mean crypto-Nazi political terrorist. You’ll find the full unedited exchange right here but I’m giving you the news segment because it provides important context. Like, for example, that the guy who asked Scott the question actually is one of his constituents, contrary to what the distinguished gentleman implies. And that his “hijacking” of this town hall (which wasn’t devoted to health care) came during a Q&A session in which attendees were in fact allowed to ask about anything. But aside from that, he’s very, very Nazi, baby.
Then you can have the real fun, to be informed on by your neighbor for spreading filthy disinformation (code for disagreement) and have them (possibly illegally) turn you in to the Whitehouse. What’s next, reeducation camps?
Even the president himself seem determined to remove your voice. He wants you to sit down and be quiet on one hand so he can reach out to all parties and hear all sides of the debate on the other.
Somehow he lost me on that, but as this clip shows, from the same speech, thats exactly what he wants.
The attitude from a lot of democrats or liberals, and this is literal I have heard this to my face, is that the republicans and conservatives lost the election, so they don’t get to be heard any more. They don’t matter. Their opinions are not of any merit, and they should not be heard.
A friend actually told me he sees no point in conservatives being allowed to debate on health care since they will not vote for it anyway.
Let me repeat that. They should not be allowed to be part of the debate since they will just vote against it.
I guess it never occurs to people like this that if they had a voice in the debate, they might be able to reach an acceptable middle ground that everyone can live with. You know, the often claimed and famed bipartisan reaching across the aisle that the democrats love to pretend they care about.
They don’t. Speaker Pelosi repealed the fairness rules in the House to ensure the Republican minority has no voice:
The spirit of bipartisan cooperation didn’t survive the first day of the 111th Congress as House Democrats pushed through a package of rule changes Tuesday that the furious Republican minority said trampled their traditional rights to affect legislation.
California Rep. David Dreier, ranking Republican on the House Rules Committee, called the procedural changes engineered by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, an “act of pure cynicism,” in stark contrast to the promises of President-elect Barack Obama to work with Republicans to pass major bills.
“So much for the Obama vision,” said Mr. Dreier, who said the changes would create “the most closed Congress in history.”
The present situation is troubling. Conservatives face mockery if they organize and see their values flaunted when they don’t.
The most disgusting thing is that for 8 years, the liberal machine organized by astro turf expert George Soros and his chained pit bull Moveon.org was engaging in daily and loud protests, all shielded by free speech.
And in many cases they were rude, violent and unlawful. Yet, at every turn, they shoved the first amendment in the face of every news camera and piously proclaimed their sanctity.
Yet when the Tea Parties actually began to gain strength, they were cranks and nut jobs, and were dismissed with vulgarity and disdain. And now as the Democrats crank up cheerleading townhall meetings to sell America on socialized medicine, the attack machine, in the best Chicago Style, has again been ramped up. Demonize. Vilify. Marginalize. Attack. Dismiss. Ignore.
They have even ‘authorized’ direct confrontation. I find it horrible and disgusting, but since I oppose the national health care debacle, that makes me a political terrorist, so what do I know.
What is so hard to accept about people wanting to ahve a voice? What is so wrong about people caring enough to speak out?
The truth is that the Democrats and Obama are afraid. They rolled over people common sense once too often, and now they face the proverbial sleeping tiger, and now face their anger.
They must take control of this NOW or they willsuffer losses in 2010 and 2012. They must cripple the opposition anyway they can, and if that takes Orwellian tactics and brutal ad hominem attacks, so be it.
Behold: Hope and change. Transparency. Bipartisanship.
On the local front, the reps are split on their response to this sudden outbreak of people actually giving a damn:
I feel a bit nostalgic. I remember the days when free speech actually meant something. I long for the time when lawmakers actually cared about the people and the law.
Oh well. Times have changed. In 2009 free speech and democracy were put on government run health care and died while waiting for a transfusion.
All we have left is the audacity of Hope:

Glad you good Christians are doing the right thing by ensuring that your corporate masters are free to continue denying health care claims to dying children so you can sit around collecting your Medicaid checks like the lazy, free-loading hyenas you pieces of old trash are.
Just remember, this debate isn’t over until one group goes silently, and judging by the age of the old hags you get to bark and howl at these town halls it seems like mother nature just may solve the problem for us very quickly.
You can scream and cry all you like, just remember that the moment you cash that Medicaid check you have just proven yourself to be nothing more than a selfish, lying hypocrite (the rest of us know it, but it would be nice if you acknowledged it once and awhile).
Ah, as expected, there is the liberal tolerance and love in action.
Isn’t it ironic that an obvious democrat like you, who is supposed to be a member of the party that supports the working class and poor is so openly disrespectful and disdainful of the people that the Democrat programs are created to help.
Not to mention your obvious hatred of women.
Thanks for proving my point.
karl, if you are a republican you are a hypocrite. you talk of democrats not being tolerant but at every town hall it’s republicans shouting racist nonsense, holding up racist signs, nazi signs and ss signs, its republicans lying about the health care plan, shouting down people who want to ask questions and hurling insults, attacking others in the streets over it. You are not in the position to talk about any of this without admitting your a liar, ignorant and a hypocrite.
Big Stuff,
A) I am not a republican, I have never registered as a republican or caucused as a republican and I likely never will. I am a conservative, not a partisan.
B) Please provide me with the evidence to support your claims of “it’s republicans shouting racist nonsense, holding up racist signs, nazi signs and ss signs” and “its republicans lying about the health care plan, shouting down people who want to ask questions and hurling insults, attacking others in the streets over it”
It’s easy to play the race card. Let’s see you actually back it up with facts or something.
I guarantee that if republicans were doing such things, the state controlled media would be lovingly showcasing it on every newscast. So far only one assault has taken place, which included racial epitaphs, and it was done against a conservative by liberals.
My advice, put down the DNC flavoured Koolaid and take a clear look at what is actually happening.
