PSA: Light the Night with the J-Team and help fight blood cancers

Published by Karl at 12:53 am under Personal

A former coworker sent this to me, and I wanted to pass it on to you.   The story contained about his wife Janette is completely true, I was at her funeral.  Put the politics aside and make a difference.

Light the Night with Luke and help fight blood cancers

Here we are, more than halfway through summer and that means that the Light the Night walk is just around the corner. It is once again time to gather friends and family to Light the Night in honor of Janette and all of those who have been touched by cancer. This is the eighth year the J-Team will descend upon Greenlake and Ruston Way to show our support for all those who have been effected by cancer. Over the past 7 years the J-team has raised over $43,000 dollars for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and every year I am touched by the number of people that walk and donate in support of this wonderful cause.

The Light the Night walks help raise money for research to find a cure for blood related cancers, which are the window into many other cancers.  Raising money to aid in the research for blood related cancers does more than just help those afflicted by them, but those with other types of cancer as well.  The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society takes 85% of all donations and puts it back towards cancer research.  That is huge and one of the largest amounts that any non-profit gives back to helping find a cure.

As most of you know, my wife Janette lost her battle against Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in February of 2002. Ever since that time I have been very involved in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s cause.

Over the past few years many of my close friends, people that I would consider family, have been effected by cancer. Now more than ever I hope we can all come together and walk in honor of all who have been touched by these diseases.

This will be my eight year as the captain of the “J-Team” in honor of Janette.  I have always had the goal of making the J-Team a $10,000 team and have yet to make it.  Last year we raised $8,500 so we were SO close.  I am looking forward to making this our first $10,000 year and our best year ever!

Here is Janette’s story.  If this is your first time, or if you have read it before, please take a few minutes to read it:

**Just a quick warning, I have been told this can have a high “tear” factor, so be ready **

When are the walks?

Saturday – September 12th at 6pm on Ruston Way in Tacoma

Saturday – September 26th at 6pm on Greenlake in Seattle

- How can you get involved? -

Donate to the J-Team and be an honorary member:

How much should I donate?

Well that is up to you.  My personal goal is $5000 and I have set the team goal at $10,000.  Donate any amount that you like, $1, $5, $25, $75, $100, $1000, 1 Million dollars!  My suggested donation is $100 but anything you can give is wonderful.

You can donate in two ways:

Donate by cash or check:  If you donate by check please make the check out to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society.
