Video break: Hillary

She has had a rough week I would say.  She imploded into mediocrity in the debate a few nights ago when she clearly would not take a consistent position on Illegal Immigrants and drivers licenses.  In the first video, presidential long shot John Edwards uses footage from the debate to show her inconsistency.

In the second, SNL, who will lampoon anyone, has a good time with her at a halloween party, with some good digs by special guest Obama.

Enjoy.

Another unhinged Rosie? Sad but True

One of my all time favorite TV shows is the 80's and 90's sitcom Roseanne.

Roseanne when it came out could have been a portrait of my life.  At the time I was not well off financially, and was dealing with a lot of stress and unhappiness with laughter and sarcasm.

It was one of the first sitcoms to portray what life for most working class people was like:  A struggle with highs and lows. It also, as Roseanne Barr notes in her DVD commentary, clearly showcases the disconnect in class in America.

But.  One of the things I do struggle with is Roseanne herself, the actress, the comedienne and the activist.

I perused her blog and was shocked at how she can flip from crazy to wacky in no time at all.

Here are some examples from Roseanne World.   WARNING:  EXTREME LANGUAGE AHEAD

On Anne Coulter:

Ann Coulter

She serves a purpose, and a part of that is disturbing. When any woman with opinions speaks up - including Anne (the mouthpiece for Aryan womanhood) - she is the victim of verbal sexual assault. Her genitals and sexuality are gleefully insulted: she has an Adam's apple, she likes getting fucked in the ass... This is wrong in any case, even hers. It demeans all women to do it. She can be debated intelligently, and if she would allow me that, I would be honored to do it, as I think she makes some valid points about the failures of the left in this country.

A clear thinking, fair rational piece.  Now flip to:

Ann Coulter's Anti-Semitism

The ultimate state of the perfection of Jews: they are all dead.

This is what is actually in the minds of Bush/Cheney and all Christians of the right who run this country, and ironically, are the major supporters of the state of Israel's ride to ruin which is coming very quickly.

John Edwards health plan includes compulsory preventative care

Published by Karl under Democrats, Idiots, OTA, edwards

You read that right.  His mandatory health plan that will cover everyone also includes mandatory appointments, meaning if you are enrolled, and everyone has to, you MUST go to the doctor according to the plan.

The story comes from Ann Althouse, via Hot Air.

Edwards backs mandatory preventive care

Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards said on Sunday that his universal health care proposal would require that Americans go to the doctor for preventive care.

"It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care," he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. "If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose not to go to  the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK."

Repeat, with emphasis:

"It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care," he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. "If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose not to go to  the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK."

This wins the top prize of nanny state government.  Look, I agree that the idea, the concept of a national health care system is attractive.  Having paid outrageous premiums and even gone without health care several times, I think it would be a good thing as a fall back plan.  But this is the first time that I have heard of a catch, that you must do what they tell you.

What might that be?  One obvious one:

He noted, for example, that women would be required to have regular mammograms in an effort to find and treat "the first trace of problem." Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, announced earlier this year that her breast cancer had returned and spread.

John Edwards: Do as I say not as I do

I swear, just about every time this bozo opens his mouth something else elitist and ignorant pops put ans reinforces my belief that he really is that far out of touch with not just the average American, but with reality.

Edwards: Americans should sacrifice their SUVs

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards told a labor group he would ask Americans to make a big sacrifice: their sport utility vehicles.

The former North Carolina senator told a forum by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, yesterday he thinks Americans are willing to sacrifice.

Edwards says Americans should be asked to drive more fuel efficient vehicles. He says he would ask them to give up SUVs.

And I imagine he drove off in his Cadillac SUV, and flew away in his private jet for his next 400 dollar haircut before heading home to his 28000 sq ft house.

(Source Politico)

Putz.

I'm sick of this patronizing "do as I say not as I do" attitude, which is common in politics in general, but in the environmental matters in particular, seems to permeate the Democrats.

Politicians love telling us how much we have to sacrifice and all the things we must do while casually going about their wasteful business, only stopping long enough to buy indulgences, to give them back their happy place of smug superiority.

As Sister Toldjah notes:

And just how many SUVs can you count around the Edwards estate?

Edwards sounds like he’s channeling the Goracle, who pleaded in his Academy Award winning global warming crock-, er, documentary for people to conserve and sacrifice in order to save our planet, even though he himself wasn’t and hasn’t exactly been doing his part to help.

Nor are many of his loyal supporters (scroll).

Same same for Senator John Kerry.

And Senator Dianne Feinstein. And Ahhhnold.

And Arianna Huffington.

Agreed.  ST has the money quote on this issue here:

Elizabeth Edwards’ sacrifice for global warming: no more tangerines.

Published by Karl under Global Warming, edwards

The idea here is that you do not buy any fruit that is imported because of the carbon footprint in transporting it.

No tangerines for you?

The politics of global warming got very concrete, and oddly difficult, In a meeting with local environmentalists in the coastal town of McClellanville today, where Elizabeth Edwards raised in passing the importance of relying on locally-grown fruit.

"We've been moving back to 'buy local,'" Mrs. Edwards said, outlining a trade policy that "acknowledges the carbon footprint" of transporting fruit.

"I live in North Carolina. I'll probably never eat a tangerine again," she said, speaking of a time when the fruit is reaches the price that it "needs" to be.

Edwards had talked about "sacrifice," at the meeting, but Elizabeth's suggestion illustrated just how difficult it is to sell the specifics of sacrifice.

Asked about her comment immediately after the event, John Edwards avoided the question twice, then said he isn't sure.

"Would I add to the price of food?" he asked. "I'd have to think about that."

UPDATE: Just to be clear, he's not talking about a food tax. The basic point is that any plan that imposes new costs on carbon emissions is going to make anything that's transported long distances with fossil fuels cost more. It is, in a way, a moment of clarity in this debate.

I cannot for the life of me understand why people claim that the rich are out of touch.

Hillary and Edwards caught on open mic

Published by Karl under Democrats, edwards, hillary

Can you say oops?

Clinton, Edwards talk of limiting debate

Democrats John Edwards and Hillary Rodham Clinton consider themselves among the top presidential candidates.

They were caught by Fox News microphones discussing their desire to limit future joint appearances to exclude some lower rivals after a forum in Detroit Thursday.

Edwards says, "We should try to have a more serious and a smaller group."

Clinton agrees, saying, "We've got to cut the number" and "they're not serious." She also says that she thought their campaigns had already tried to limit the debates and say, "We've gotta get back to it."

It amazes me how they both still think they are the big dogs.  Hillary has a lot of momentum, but Edwards is likely going to be delegated to being someone's possible VP pick.  He has no credibility and his elitism will never fly.

But in Hillary's case I hope she is afraid of Obama and the late entry, Al Gore.

Of course both claimed plausible deniability.

Both Edwards and Clinton were asked about the exchange Friday, and offered different explanations.

In New Hampshire, Clinton seemed to lay responsibility on Edwards.

"I think he has some ideas about what he'd like to do," she said, adding she liked participating in the forums.

For his part, Edwards told reporters in Iowa that he wasn't in favor of barring anyone from future gatherings. Rather, he said he wanted to see them separated into two groups of four each, chosen randomly.

"The result would be that we would have a much more serious discussion and people would actually be able to see what the differences are between us," he said.

Nice.  Typical politician's evasion:  "I didn't say that...ok I did say something, but it wasn't that...and even if I did, I didn't means what you think I did."

Kucinich was unimpressed.

An angry Dennis Kucinich lashed out at John Edwards on Friday, saying his Democratic rival showed "a consistent lack of integrity" by suggesting fewer candidates should participate in presidential forums and then trying to explain his remark to reporters.

More on Edwards and Coulter

Published by Karl under OTA, ann coulter, edwards, hypocrites

The Ann and Liz show continues and as usual people spend most of the time accusing Ann of saying things she did not say.  Take this link for example, where they gleefully chortle that:

Ann Coulter Loses It, Calls Elizabeth Edwards A "Harridan"

Except she didn't call Edwards anything.

Yes, she is upset, and when the left continually misrepresents you it has to be frustrating.  But she did not call any specific person a harridan, she made a unspecific reference to being attacked by Harridans.  No where did she point a finger, and Liz is not the only female to challenge her, so this is more grandstanding.

Newsmax has more:

 Furious Ann Coulter Strikes Back

An obviously angry Ann Coulter this morning ripped into critics who deliberately distorted her comments about former senator and presidential hopeful John Edwards.

After a relentless 24-hour firestorm during which much of the mainstream media used selective quotes to mangle the meaning of several of Ann’s comments about Edwards, Coulter set the record straight while talking with Joe Scarborough host of MSNBC’s "Morning Joe” program.

Coulter told Scarborough:

"I’ve never seen people avoid ideas so much in such an obvious way and try to alert Americans not to read anything, not to listen to something someone said — not because of what someone is saying, but to try to portray her as a Nazi. This happens every time I put a book out and I’m getting a little bored with it . . .”

She further explained that she never wished John Edwards would die. She simply said on "Good Morning America" on June 25 that Bill Maher had wished the death of Vice President Cheney by terrorist attack and got away with it, so perhaps if she wanted to avoid criticism in the future while mentioning Edwards, she should say the same thing.

"Oh yeah, I wouldn’t insult gays by comparing them to John Edwards,” Coulter said on "Good Morning America." "That would be mean. But about the same time — you know — Bill Maher was not joking and saying he wished Dick Cheney had been killed in a terrorist attack. So I’ve learned my lesson. If I’m going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I’ll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot.”
